Top guitarists play lead attractions in a CD compilation celebrating the talents of Filipino guitar idols called “Mga Gitarista,” featuring 14 instrumental tracks written, performed and recorded by respected and notable guitarists in the local scene.
The album’s guitar gang comprises of musicians who are part of groups that earned fame during this decades local band surge led by Francis Reyes of The Dawn, Mike Elgar of Rivermaya, Mong Alcaraz of Sandwich and Chicosci, Hale’s Roll Martinez, Rocksteddy’s Juven Pelingon, Slapshocks’ Lean Ansing, Pupil’s Yan Yuzon.
Others in the gang are Jeff de Castro, currently playing for the Kitchie Nadal, Ian Umali of POT and Jack Rufo of Neocolors fame. They are also joined in by legendary riff masters RJ Jacinto, Jun Lopito and Noli Aurillo. The other big Filipina lady rocker Barbie Almalbis represents the opposite gender with her piece called “Shapes Of Things” which proves that guitar playing is not exclusively a guy thing.
This various artists package is expected to attract guitar enthusiasts and rock fanatics alike. It offers more than entertainment as it also acts as an audio tour de force, saluting the post of guitar players in bands and recordings in general. This album is a much-deserved indulgence of that vital cog in playing music.
“Mga Gitarista” is now available at your favorite record stores under 12 Stone Records distributed by Able Music.

i have one!bought it sa launching sa tiendesitas. I really love "aratig" and "final decision". Idol talaga si Ian Umali, nagpaganda rin sa piece nya is his rythm section.kudos too kay roll martinez,he's not a shreder pero anganda ng composition nya ng "isabelle". eto lang muna masasabi ko.hehe

guitar composition/arrangement at recording.
IMHO these 2 songs stands out.

My faves are Mike Elgar's, Jack Rufo's and RJ. Astig! Sana magkaroon din ng ganitong album sa Philmusic madami din magaling dito.

I saw that on a special presentation while going through the channels, channel 23 iirc. Some tracks were not presented but of all that i got to see, the video with the guitar player using a 335 seemed quite nice. I didn't like the rest. There were interviews too and I wish Barbie gave credit to the Yardbirds/Jeff Beck for the song she did. It seems like a good thing but according to the interviews, the compositions were a bit rushed. Perhaps it would have sounded better or the contents would be richer if the participating artists we're allowed to indulge a bit. Just my opinion of course :-)

So far, the tracks that I personally like are:
Lean Ansing's Space Jungle- The other "guitarist" in him just blew me away. He really knows when to put the flashy solos.
Ian Umali's Final Decision- Superb talent! Very soothing. Everyone should hear this track.
Francis Reyes' Cutout Horizon- The intro almost doesn't sound like it's made by guitar. The flashy solos are great as well. Distinct sound, you'll know it's Kiko.
Other tracks? I have yet to listen to them attentively.

Nice album ito ah.. di ko pa napapakinggan lahat pero napanood ko sa youtube yung music videos nila... I'm definitely gonna grab a copy of this....!

Nice album. One comment ko lang is though I have nothing against Mike Elgar and his song but I didn't like his tone. Because gaya gaya nya ung kay steve vai. Not that I don't like vai's tone but why ka gagaya diba? Other than that I really like Haymaker. Reminds me of the audience is listening of vai.
