Tuesday Open Jam Night at Skarlet Jazz Kitchen
« on: February 15, 2011, 11:12:09 AM »
Hi. I am starting a new thread solely for the above mentioned subject. As most of us are already aware, Tuesday nights at Skarlet Jazz Kitchen is an open jazz jam night and dedicated to Sax Society members. Although we can also invite other instrument players as long as they bring their own instruments (excluding drummers). We've had successful and fun night during our previous sessions so I again encourage everyone to join if you have free time. This is your chance to conquer that stage fright and show off what you've been practicing. Beginners are also encouraged to join even just to observe. Other than the regular Sax Society workshop headed by Tots Tolentino being held every month, this is another way of meeting members, learning from members and practicing your sax skills whatever playing level you are in.

So, come join us. Jam session starts at 8:00 PM. Skarlet Jazz Kitchen (formerly TEN02) is located at 1002 Sct. Ybardolaza near corner of Timog Ave. beside Buddy's restaurant and across Shell gas station.

Okay lang yun, man. Magkakaroon talaga ng conflict sa schedule sa iba, especially kung gabi yung trabaho. Basta kung maka-timing ka na libre ka sa tuesday night, daan ka doon.

Regarding learning the basics on how to play, the best way is to learn from a teacher and other more experienced players. But for those times when you can't play with a teacher or other players, the next best thing is to learn by yourself. You can get a lot of information in the internet. Then just experiment and play a lot. Try visiting http://forum.saxontheweb.net/forum.php also. There's a lot of information there and a forum. Then, try to play with other people as much as possible.

Good luck! Basta tugtog lang ng tugtog.

rex,

okay lang naman kung kumplekado talaga ang schedule. ang sa akin lang enable for you to learn the sax, you should focus yourself sa instrumentong ito. masyado pa kasing busy si prof. tots tolentino kaya hindi pa makapagschedule ng workshop, but I know attending the open jam sessions every tues will help you develop your skills in sax, malaking example nyan si sir dennis (sobrang laki ng improvement nya.. congrats sir dennis). ika nga hindi ka matututong magdrive ng sasakyan kung mga tubero ang kasama mo...kung pareparehas lang kayong nag aaral sa isang bagay... walang magsasabi kung tama o mali ang ginagawa  mo...you are like driving without destination.. tapos hindi pa sa sax nakafocus ang time mo, kundi sa kung anu anong instrumento. I might not be a professional sax player, at hindi rin naman ako nagyayabang.. just being part of the sax society of the philippines, my obligation is to help and support my co sax players.. kasi ganun ang vision ng community...just continue learning and play sax.

When I started playing the sax about 6 years ago, I was also playing the keyboards. I realized that as music is just a hobby for me, I do not have enough time for both sax and keyboard playing so I decided to just concentrate on my sax playing. I hope I made the right decision although there were times when I watch Romy Posadas or Boy Katindig, I could not help but doubt on whether I made the right choice.

Were on the same boat bro, d ka nag-iisa :)  d rin ako makapagpraktis dahil i really need to work for the preparation of my first born. Muntik ko ng ibenta yung MarkVi tenor or yung 10M ko

Bro, bili ka ng recorder para makatulong pagnagpa-praktis ka.  Tapos pakinggan mo ulet yung tinugtog mo.

D ko alam kung bakit ganun, andami kong katanungan at naguguluhan ako dahil bakit d pedeng gawing "A" or "y" or "Z" yon.  Bakt parating "x"?

Although, ang kilala ko lang dito ay c Yeyeh.....if I'm going to look for advice, I will gladly take the heed of Kuya Vince, Kuya Ding and learn from the experience/wisdom of Mang Panny... and also for the wisdom of Yeyeh dahil he's a blues player. He knows the intricacies and dynamics....... hands down    :-)   and also, sa mami-meet ko dito in the future

First time ko na makarinig ng magaling na harmonica players and I am very much impressed with their sound. Hindi ko akalain na ganoon pala kaganda ang sound ng harmonica if the one playing is a good.

Let us also welcome the trumpet player. Sana next time may trombone player para complete ang blowing section.

The trumpet player is Froilan's cousin. He was from UST conservatory of music. Too bad most of you guys left when we did our last song (Chuck Mangione's Feel So Good). All sax players went up the stage (me, Froilan and Col. Noel Estanislao on alto,  RJ on tenor, Froi's cousin on trumpet, harmonica plus Ian on the keyboard and Col. Noel's friend on the drums) and played. It was one of the most enjoyable song we've done so far as a group. It was such an adrenaline rush to see the audience stomping their feet, swinging to the beat and dancing while we play. And to top it all off, Skarlet was conducting traffic. What a way to end the night. What more can you ask? :)

Until next Tuesday, guys. Keep blowing!

All parts of the show were very fantastic... mga solo ng sax players from rancis de leon, mga veterans natin sir jaime, attorney, alpha, si sir harmonica na nakaduet ko.. col noel, froilan, rj,yung isang nagharmonica, at yung nagbonggus and syempre si sir dennis... although hindi ko naabutan yung last part I know maganda talaga ang naging closing.. and syempre hindi nating pwedeng kalimutan si master ian the pianist...ang gagaling talaga ng mga naging performers kagabi...ganun ang tunay na performers..alam kung paano tumayo sa entablado... this is really a good idea mam skarlet..
