D80 and get extra glass.

Get the d40 then AND get better glass.

The D90 isnt that much of an upgrade to the D80 but ako lang yan and based on my skills as a newbie in DSLRs.

With the arrival of the D90 bumaba na presyo ng D80 dito sa HK so that makes it a win/win situation. Ewan ko lang jan kung magkano na D80 sa D90 ngayon.

So out na D80. So your left with D40 and D90. Both are great cameras.

you know what, just buy whatever, stop looking at reviews, enjoy your new camera, and use it to its limit.

you wont have any regrets that way, whatever model you buy.

according to the link previously given, it WAS a choice between D40, D80, and D200. the D40 was used for everyday photos, and the D200 was used for the serious photo ops. so yeah, the D80 was mostly left alone.

but if you only had to choose 1, then the D80 was the best compromise.

i'd still buy the D80 because of the much cheaper price due to the onset of the D90.

screw more features! im seeing that the D90 will only replace the D80 as the best compromise body, but will still get neglected over the D40 and the D200.

18-135mm is a good lens. better reach than the d40's 18-55mm. in terms of feature mas maganda features ng d80 kaysa sa d40. ang d80 ay baby d200. much like the d90 is a big baby d300. id still go for d80 kung may mahahanap ka pa. plus ang d80 ay may built in motor while yung d40 wala. and kung d40 man lang din, mag d60 ka na.
yung features na mayron ang d90 compared sa d80 isnt that much and ang nagustuhan ko lang sa d90 is the better noise handling.

some prefer d40 kasi iba colors na naproproduce niya kaysa sa d80. cant remember kung ano ang mas saturated.

last time i checked ang d80 at d90, nasa 10k ang price difference.

Nobody's asked the threadstarter how big his hands are and how well he can handle weight on his neck for extended periods.

maganda pa daw ang D40 kesa sa D80...
That is so not true.

I'm a fan of Ken Rockwell, but you have to put everything he says into context, because he's prone to sensationalize things a bit to make his articles more interesting. If I had a D40, D80 and D200, the D80 would be gathering dust, too.

And I doubt Rockwell still uses the D40 kit lens with any regularity. Chances are, he's got his favorite 18-200VR on most of the time. That's a great all-around lens regardless of the body.

As for D80 vs D90, it's a matter of weighing price over slight (but significant) improvement in noise handling plus video recording (memory card eater and mono audio only).

d80 is a capable cam... it still use mine up to now..

nothing beats a Cam with a good glass.  " The Cam body is the accesory of the lens".  :-D

May suggestion would be buy a D80 body plus a tamron 17-50  2.8 or 28-75.
then set your eyes on a 2nd hand or brand new sb600 for your next purchase and your all set..
