He was 60 years old.  He's also the singer to one of my favorite reggae songs ever:

Sad day indeed for the Reggae community and true Reggae lovers worldwide. The Cool Ruler has moved on.
BTW, he was only 59.

I can't believe that, for a man whose career spanned nearly 4 decades in the reggae scene, only a handful recognized his significance and contribution to reggae music. I guess this just shows how mediocre the so-called "reggae scene" is out here and how it obviously lacks the intelligence to comprehend the legacy left behind by legends like the Cool Ruler.  :-(

Same can be said about the knowledge of the newer cats carrying on.  Damian and Stephen Marley are totally on fire right now with their careers, but most folks are still stuck with their dear ol' dad and the Legend album.

Dread, if you get a chance to find this on torrent or something, please check out the documentary called Rocksteady: The Roots of Reggae.  I got to see this film last spring.  It was filled with a lot of interviews and live performances from the likes of Derrick Morgan, Hopeton Lewis, Marcia Griffiths, etc.  There also was an interview with Rita Marley in the Bob Marley museum where there was a bit of TMI regarding where she and Bob did it at one of the bungalow kitchens.

From one roots music fan to another, here's the website:

My sentiments exactly.  :-)

Thanks for the link!
I actually saw the film's trailer a couple of months ago and posted it on my Fb wall. It's definitely a must-see! I'll probably wait for the official dvd release and order a copy. I'm really not into downloading stuff from the net. I still buy my music (cds, lps, 45s, dvds) to this day. My own little way of supporting the reggae scene worldwide  :-)
Big Up Deadwing! Stay Roots!

I was born the year 1982,di ko na naabutan si Bob Marley, pero naabutan ko pa sila Dennis Brown ang Greg Isaacs.Ngayon wala na sila lahat sa mundong ibabaw, but their music, passion and legacy will live on.
