honest to goodness opinion? magagalit sa yo mga kasama mo kapag saluda gamit mo sa gig  :( mababasag tenga mo pati tenga nila sa lakas.

its also a matter of taste, i like their aggressive sound but they dont record well (too harsh) so i need good old zildjians for that. i can buy another set of saludas for recording but heck id rather go get the old familiars and besides saludas arent cheap anymore. the crashes have increased in price 2x.

saluda opens up easily. the sound you get is different depending on how hard or how soft you play unlike zildjians/sabians. you really need to play with the saludas to find the "sweet spot".

Di naman Fernando. Because they're brass, mahina ang Fernando... hindi mo maririnig sa gig.

Saludas are basically "trash" cymbals, IMO.  Hindi basura ha... but you can get a china sound in a crash. So a china that sustains. Feeling ko bagay ang Saludas sa thrash metal or goth/atmospheric, but not in funk, pop, or straight-up rock.  Pero my 17" crash, bagay sa rock BUT as an accent, not as a main crash.

Now, I'm craving for Istanbuls. May darating akong Mehmet hats this week... hehehe.

you should try the new Fernado cymbals. In color and looks. parang Wuhans which is the look and sound alike ng Saluda. Tanungin mo rin si rommel Mendoza. Chong Mas maganda ata yung Agop kaysa sa Mehmets ah... Prinig pag dumating na ha!!!!! Nabenta mona yung Saluda mo???

SANDY...

Saludas
Whoa, if they're like Wuhans, well then yea, halos pareho nga sila. My 17 is vented, so medyo kakaiba siya than most Wuhans

Hindi ko pa nabebenta yung Saludas, pero I have several guys asking about the 17".

Agop VS Mehmet
I dunno for sure kung mas maganda ang Agop sa Mehmet (hindi pa ako nagcocompare A-B in person), pero parang mas maganda ang reception ng Mehmet kesa Agop sa Cymbalholic eh (which I kinda trust). I'm guessing factor ang pagiging mas available ng Agop than Mehmet, pero you can also look at it as Agop losing quality because they're making more cymbals, and Mehmet sticking to making limited quantities, thus keeping their quality intact.

Sandy, got my Istanbul Mehmets na. I'm very happy with them. Warm and dark.  Yung tunog parang K custom na hindi ko maintindihan.

If anyone wants to check them out, I'll bring them later sa A-Venue sa may Timog. I'll be using them with my band Mahasa. (Naks, plugging)
:)

May plano ka ba bumili ng Saluda? If you want to try out my Saludas (check the link in my sig) we can arrange to meet. My number's also listed sa link below. :)

^^ Hipo lang? U dont want to play with it? (haha)

The gig was Aug 25, just last Friday in A-venue.

The Mehmets sounded amazing with my other cymbals. It's traditional, so it's warm. Pero it's polished shiny, so it's loud.

I used:

14" Istanbul Mehmet Traditional Regular hats
18.5" Sabian Chad Smith Explosion Crash
20" Zildjian K Custom Medium Ride (as crash-ride)
24" Zildjian A Medium Ride (70's hollow logo)

(Uy, threadjacking!)

Peeves.... magkano pagawa ng 10x10 tom sa iyo?

Anyways back to Saluda... anyone want to buy mine? I'm itching for another Mehmet.

Cheaper alternative to Zildjian Ks

Dream Bliss Cymbals - medyo sikat ngayon sa states dahil maganda review ng modern drummer. hand hammered. ok yung sound. dark and trashy. they actually compare the bliss line to vintage Ks at As (yun yung nakalagay sa ebay hehe)...meron mga sound files sa link sa baba...you be the judge. nagshiship din sila worldwide, baka interesado kayo.

The non-Zildjian, non-Sabian, non-Paiste cymbal thread
« Reply #19 on: May 09, 2007, 10:40:52 AM »
I had a chance to record 2 songs as yet with Inigo of the Haneps, who has an Istanbul Mehmet 14" regular hihat set.  It did have a lot of wash, less stick definition, and the pedal hat sounded less-chicky (more like khashk).  It did have a very unique sound that you can't find in most Zidljians, even the thinnest ones.

Anyway, I found out that Istanbul has two variants - AGOP and MEHMET.  What's the big difference?  SOUNDCLIPS (yes, only soundclips) tell me that AGOPs sound more like K's.  With the MEHMETs, I think they are a tad warmer...

What about Bosphorus?  Anything to say about them?

Now for the Euro types, I simply love my Meinl Classics.  They have the marriage of Paiste ping and Avedis overtones.  They use B8 alloys but are casted and hammered.  Very interesting tone.

Anyone into UFIPs?  They are the most expensive production cymbals I know.

As for the Chinese-made cymbals, all I can say is my Wuhan 20" China eats all other Turk or Euro Chinas... save for the lacjk of durability.  I already had my 2nd since a buddy cracked the first one  :x (which is set for a China Stack).  Methinks the best Chinas are still made in China.  Gotta save for a 26" wind gong...  :-D

Yes, I love my Mehmets... heeheehee

I read in Cymbalholic na there's no big difference in sound between Agop and Mehmet. Pero Mehmets daw are more consistent, and Agops have more lemons... dahil daw malaki na ang demand for Agops so medyo sacrificed ang quality, while Mehmets maintain the quality more  **DAW** ha. :D

Our drummer has 4 Wuhans... 2pcs 16'' and 2pcs 14'' china cymbals... We are using 1 pair live and the other pair is reserved just in case the inevitable happens.

They have a really thrashy and high-pitched sound that really cuts through the mix... I wish we had them when we were still recording our album...

The guy that gave our drummer the cymbals also said that they were really inexpensive..
