Boss GT10 users thread
« on: June 21, 2008, 12:54:57 PM »
Hi,
Guys, other GTs are also welcome. Let us share our newly discover user patch and  their settings with others  :-)  Some could suggest their whole set up arrangement including other effects (analog pedals), other may just recommend as well.
With video(tutorial) or sounds clip would be very much more appreciated  8-)

For GT starter like me,  sure this would inspire:
http://media.roland.com/en/v/v0500/v050002M.mov

Hope we could maximize our new gear's potential and be fully equipped in our
play.

BTW do you already have Vai or Satriani or Malmsteen patches :-o
Pls share it to meeeeeeeee....

Enjoy our GT1 :wink:,
Roger

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Cool tips, tricks, tweaks, workarounds, and techniques that G10 owners can use with their own unit.I wanna just share some knowledge and my experience in this first post of our thread
And of course you at the sane time can post tips anywhere in this thread and share your GT10 EXPERIENCE.

This first one was my own discovery and actually trip up while tweaking my GT10 and I posted this to another GT forum.

DUCKING PATCH MODE TO AUTO SWITCH INTO MANUAL MODE
a.k.a.   AUTO MANUAL mode

If you want to save CTRL for other purpose and at the same time love switching toMANUALmode this is one way to do it.

Current patch press Master/Pldfx
go to Assign select any TAB number
TARGET Manual
ManualModeSw
MIN Off
MAX On
SOURCE Input Level
SCR MODE Moment
ARCRNGLO 0
ARCRNGHI 127

Press Master/Pdlfx to switch ON the function
Go to TAB9 make INPUT SENS - 100
Press WRITE to save the patch

When the GT detect an input sound (even muted string) it will switch ON to Manual Mode and you can perform your routine with MANUAL MODE.
When there's NO sound, the MANUAL MODE will switch OFF and return to PATCH mode and you can switches to another patch

Well i'm just using it now only for my user01-1 patch co'z it's my universal set up and I need a lot of ctrl and assign to this patch, the rest of my patches don't need manual switching.
It's an AUTO Manual Mode

BTW Still you could switch patch while in manual mode just set the Bank Up into NumInc (switches to the next higher patch number with different/various OD/DS, FX1/2 etc.) and Bank Down into NumDec (switches to the next lower patch number) on manual mode.
NOTE this can only set unto a single bank and be sure to set also the DUCKING ASSIGN to those patches (to ALL if for example your using U01-1to U01-4) so you could trigger OFF the manual mode wherever patch you are.

Also this next one just only comes in my mind to give you an idea how the WAVE PEDAL works.

FX1 or FX2 AUTO off and On

Guys,
Probably many already know how this works, but just share to those not yet.

Select any FX that you want or try first the e.g. (T-WAH) Put it in your FX1
Press MasterPdlFx and select Assign press display view by list
Target = FX1
on/off
Min = off
Max = on
Source=Wave pedal
SrcMode= Toggle
ActRngLo=0
ActRngHi=127
WaveRate=50
WaveForm=Sine
Press MasterPdlFx again to switch ON and activate the assign.
Press Write  to save the patch

Try that WITH YOUR SOLO it will auto switch to T-wah and normal back and forth. You may experiment and make use of it later for other application just be constructive.

INTERNAL PEDAL Vs  WAVE PEDAL

Where both VIRTUAL pedals built in and reside in your GT10 and you can use and make most out of it just be constructive as you are.

INTERNAL Pedal
INTERNAL PEDAL method is mostly use for effects LEVEL increasing or decreasing
Just set your TARGET effects, SOURCE to INTERNAL PEDAL and (INTERNAL TRIGGER) INT TRIG for any CTL1 or 2 as long as CTL1 or CTL2 were not set to SYSTEM mode but PATCH mode
PLUS
INT TRIG = PATCH CHANGE if your opt not to use CTL1 or CTL2 and save it for other purpose.
Again this is just my example and experiment later to

TARGET = master
             = patch level (parameter)
MIN = 0
MAX = 100 (or what patch level currently your level setting is) e.g. if 120 set it Max=120
SOURCE = internal pedal
SRC MODE = moment
ACTRNGLO = 0
ACTRNGHI = 127
INT TRIG = patch change
INT TIME = 50 ( or adjust according to desire length of time)
INT CURVE = slow rise

Press MasterPdlFX to switch ON and activate the ASSIGN you made.
Press Write to save.

WAVE Pedal
WAVE PEDAL method is usually use for effects SPEED then choose SINE, TRIANGLE etc of your choice.
Wave Pedal

Select any FX that you want or try first the T-WAH. Put it in your FX1
Press MasterPdlFx and select Assign press display view by list
Target = FX1
           =on/off (parameter)
Min = off
Max = on
Source=Wave pedal
SrcMode= Toggle
ActRngLo=0
ActRngHi=127
WaveRate=50
WaveForm=Sine
Press MasterPdlFx again to switch ON and to activate the ASSIGN you have just made.
Press Write to Save

Try that, you may experiment and make use of it later for other application just be creative.

NOTE: This is not the same with using GT10 EXPRESSION PEDAL, which I get first confused with it.
If you want really to use expression pedal EXP1 PEDAL to switch/control the FX1 or FX2 goto manual 122 EXPSwFunc setting is to be done. (This is a FUNCTION not ASSIGN parameter)
Just try the sample first then experiment with different effects and variation and may use later for other application.
Good luck.

USING BACKTRACK SOUND ON GT10 RETURN
 Guys,
I know some may have already know this, but let me share to those not yet...
First be ready with your MP3 backtrack sound player co'z you gonna put or insert this to S/R using the return. (NOTE: S/R block is MONO so your stereo MP3 wouldn’t be in stereo)
Set S/R return to more volume say 150-180 and set to Direct Mix, Goto fx chain icon and place or move S/R after preamp and Noise gates and eq co'z this would affect the backtrack sound. Place it then before modulation or after modulation which ever suit your backtrack sound. Mine I placed it before dgt block before output. Presto  Use your headphone off to your practice

I'll link you to where i get my backtracking sound
http://www.guitarbt.com/index.php

Before, I need to power on my 180 electrical watts Guitar AMP and 100 watts AUDIO player AMP and do this for several hours, now I only just need battery operated MP3 with GT10 and can extent practicing even at night and keep on rocking

This link has many more free backtrack guys.

DUAL WAH CONFIGURATION

Hi Guys,
Finally I got the wah pedal more usable with this set up and you can try this and share your own setting if you find more secret on it.

Using the SUB-WAH conjunction with the EXP PEDAL WAH.

First initialize a user patch

Press Master/PdlFx button and goto FX CHAIN icon then select
You'll see the default chain of effect like this and we need this exact placement.

INPUT -> FX1 -> Comp -> PDL -> etc....

Press Exit button to exit and goto PDL/FX icon then select it
set the following

ExpSwFunc = Pedal Fx
Exp1Func = Wah/Fv

goto tab2
Type = CUSTOM
Pdl position = (default position no need to set)
Pedal Min = 0
Pedal Max = 100
Effect level = 100
Direct level = 100

goto tab3
CUSTOM type setting
Type = 7string wah
Q = -50
Range Low = -50
Range Hi = +50
Presence = +50

Press FX1 button
select Sub Wah
Type = FAT wah
Pdl position = (default position no need to set)
Pedal Min = 0
Pedal Max = 100
Effect level = 100
Direct level = 0
Leave it OFF

Press Master/PdlFx
goto ASSIGN icon make this assign
Assign tab1
Target = FX1:SWH
Pdl Position
Min = 0
Max = 100
Source = Exp1 Pedal
Scr mode = MOMENT
ActrngLo = 0
ActrngHi = 127
PRESS Master/PdlFx to active

goto next Assign tab2
Type = FX1
On/Off
Min = Off
Max = On
Source = Exp1 pedal
Scr mode = TOGGLE
ActrngLo = 126
ActrngHi =127
PRESS Master/PdlFx to active

Press onboard COMPRESSOR button to active
Type = Compressor
Sustain = 50
Attack = 50
Tone = +50
Level = 50

PRESS WRITE button to save.

DONE
Now try and step on it without anything else just this effect to hear how it work and later switch OFF the FX1 and Comp button to compare the difference!!!.

Here's just the disadvantage, you will waste FX1 for this PLUS you'll need to not to depress the exp1 pedal fully on TOE when its already ON, but you'll get use to it later after practicing some time. In return you'll like this better than without. NOW COOK YOUR OWN WAH RECIPE AND LET SHARE IT AMONG US!!
Give me your feedback too so I could test your recipe.

Do-it-yourself (DIY) Ctrl3/Ctrl4 footswitch
Guys just thought i share if your into DIYing thing  ,

Here's how it works
Get a stereo cable (TRS), plug it to the Ctrl3/Ctrl4 socket.
Press System button and goto CONTROL icon, on it goto Tab Crtl 3 setting and set preference to System and function to FX1. Just the same goto Tab Crtl4 do the same and the function this time is FX2.
Now grab the other end of the stereo cable and get a short electrical wire stick it to the SLEEVE permanently then on the other end of the wire momently touch and let go the wire unto the RING (middle) and you'll see the FX2 will be ON. Repeating it will be OFF. Same with SLEEVE and the TIP for FX1.
PRESTO!!! you have a FOOTSWITCH in the making. Just use a SPST momentary type pedal footswitch not the latching type, one for each and look for a sturdy pedal box.

If your not using it for FX1 and FX2 globally remove the setting on the CONTROL icon and put it back to its default. You can independently make an ASSIGN in a patch and set TARGET such as TUNER
Assign1
Target TUNER
tuner sw
Min OFF
Max ON
Source Ctrl3
Scr mode Toggle
Actrnglo 0
Actrnghi 127

and many more!!!

Enjoy our GT10,
You can opt to use MONO if you just want Crtl3.
The key is SLEEVE + TIP equals to Ctrl3, SLEEVE + RING = Ctrl4
you can first simply check test using your MONO guitar cable to get the idea.

Here:

Enclosure
http://www.epektos.com/product/d782c...3274f05bf.aspx

http://www.smallbearelec.com/Detail.bok?no=466

SPST footswitch
http://www.smallbearelec.com/Detail.bok?no=672

Switchcraft or stereo socket
http://www.smallbearelec.com/Detail.bok?no=88
NC there is for your jack SLEEVE (ground) connect or wire this to one end of those two SPST. Then the SPST other side is for RING MIDDLE (ctrl 4), the other SPDT side is for the TIP (ctrl 3)

Drill one hole on the edge of the box for the switchcraft or socket, Drill two holes at the top for you Stomp footswitches.
Just a simple wire and soldering task you may able to get the project done.

After finishing the project you may call it now DIM Do-It-Myself

Tips Tweaks Techniques
HOPE it’s a trick

Share us also your tricks so we all enjoy our GT10 mga Comrade.

Download the GT-10 Owner's Manual PDF files and browse to pages 118-120
http://www.bosscorp.co.jp/products/en/_support/om.cfm?ln=en&dsp=0&iCncd=3420&iStcd=4

Yes, every decision has to be or has a factor. Me, I bought it for just 19,996  :-D
The introductory price now is 24,996 but I do have a WELCOME BACK GIFT CERTIFICATE 20% discount which they gave last month when I attended their Roland/Boss inaugration night. So I when to Perfect Pitch test one unit then no further ado I take home the unit :lol: I'm pretty much sure GT-10 takes off where GT-8 has left kaya i'm sure it's a best buy co'z GT-8 users were very much satisfy.
BTW look for somebody who also got the same CERTIFICATE na di namn nila gagamitin valid only until July 31,2008 kc yon. Or do you know somebody at yupangco puwede ka humingi kung puwede. 5thousand din natipid ko :lol: Para lang siya leaflet muntik ko ng itapon buti siningit ko sa ibabaw ng Ref pag ka uwi ko.
Ciao,
Roger
