Title: STRAIGHTEDGE - Rockers nga ba?

What do you guys think of people (particularly musicians) who dont smoke, drink, or do drugs? I personally don't do all those stuff, and I somehow jokingly consider myself straightedge. hehehe. Any thoughts??

The greatest hardcore punk band for me will always be Minor Threat. And they are straight edge. Here's a part of the lyrics of one of their songs: Out Of Step With The World

oh, straight edge din pala ako. Except I only drink occasionally. And that's rare.

I get a lot of "crap" for that. Well not in a serious manner, I've got a tattoo. So when people see me, they assume na I smoke, drink, and so forth. When I tell them that I've never tasted a joint, cigarette or beer, they say "UL*L! PA*YU! DI AKO NANINIWALA SAYO", which I think is really funny.

for me sila yung genuine punk, in the sense...walang hung-ups,walang machismo,walang eklat sa katawan.
sila yung totoong may passion sa pagbago ng systemang bulok, sa sociodad na puro dada at puro puna at pintas lang ang kayang gawin! Di naman kayang simulan sa sarili.
Sampal din sila sa punk scene na ang daming posseurs at pa-macho, pa-cool at kung ano-ano pang gimmick para matanggap ng mga akala nilang punk din sila!bwiset!

+1111111 to that. :-D exactly why i believe that while a lot of pop-punk may be enjoyable, it isn't true punk music. AFAIK, minor threat, and even ian mackaye's later band fugazi were truly pissed off with the goings-on around them, and none of them had to smoke, drink, or do even "soft" drugs to prove their point.
i'm the last person you'd call straight-edge, but i hold a great respect for the straight-edgers out there...no cigarettes, no booze, no drugs, and AFAIK, no meat as well. and most of all, no BS. kaya nga naiinis ako when i'd make cameo appearances sa kabilang forum (the jeje-friendly rocker's forum, if you know what i mean), and see nicks like x-jEjEheW0wPouhWz-x :lol: and they'd suddenly be posting stuff like "tara smhn nyu aq sa expo, dUbI taU jejejejeje"...i'm sure they do not realize the significance of the "x" in their nicks...that's a straight-edge trademark they're bastardizing!

umiinom ako para pampasarap ng kwentuhan, pangpadulas ng dila at pangpasaya ng samahan
di ako nagyoyosi kasi hindi ko magets kung para saan yun
di rin ako nagdadrugs, kasi usok lang ng inihaw na isda ang drugs ko! ahh bango pare! :-D

most STRAIGHTEDGERS are vegan di lang vice but doing thier part not to consume live animals of this planet yes we know it's music, artist ect still skin yun alam ko they don't eat or consume animal products even milk or cheese no alcohol and i think marijuana they can consumed it pwede naman halo sa food yan di tulad ng tabaco un lang sana pang sinabi nyo STRAIGHTEDGE kayo know the real essence and give justice to it kc minsan puro tayo gaya mali na pala ginagawa natin at pananaw natin about it :-)

Straight-edge is a niche from within the whole spectrum of subsets found beneath the umbrella of punk and its related movements. I was straight-edge for five years and I don't suppose my refusal to drink or do drugs took anything away from the quality of concrete involvement I had within my scene of choice. I shed the straight-edge tag in January of last year. I could get down on a good drink every now and then. Still seldom, but I guess I'm a little less self-righteous about everything. I still however strongly adhere to the notion that the quality of a person's life is best assessed in terms of one's sober perception of the world. It's as real as it gets, IMO. I'm forever thankful that straight-edge gave me a mindset that sought to build off of having a clear and positive view of the world. It made me see that all I ever need to be happy is myself and the moments I share with people.

all the time, walang excuse, isa itong commitment. Hindi pwede nagyoyosi/inom ako pag may occasion, oras na hithitin mo yang yosi at tumikim ka ng alcohol considered na yun na hindi ka na straight edge, ganun lang ka-simple.

Well, wala din namang masama kahit madaming nakikiuso kahit totoo man o peke ang intensyon mo, mas madami pa nga mas ok dahil sa huli positibo naman ang epekto nito sa kabataan at in general na rin.

straightedge ako dati nung bata pa'ko haha pero di na ngayon, pag nandyan na kasi + pa yung convincing powers ng tropa mo, ewan ko nalang kung makatanggi kapa. umiinon ako pag may dapat lang icelebrate, hindi dahil may problema at hindi dahil musician ako. haha di nadadaan sa inom yun!
wag mo na isipin sasabihin ng iba kung talagang ayaw mo. haha mag music-music ka nalang.! :roll:
I must admit that until I became 24, I was straight edge. I never drink, I never smoked, never took drugs, never had a relationship. My only habit is gigging. Gigging gives me more heights than any alcoholic drink can provide me.
Pero nung nagsimula akong magtrabaho sa bangko, dun ako natutong uminom. Sa bangko rin ako nagsimulang umibig. Dun ako unang nakapasok ng night club na tumable ng babae.
Before that, being a pro musician even strengthened my conviction not to do those. It's that the music is too powerful to make me do otherwise.
I'm back to being a full time pro musician again when I became 27. I still don't smoke, I still don't do drugs, I stuck with my only relationship I ever had in my life (although wala na kami ngayon), though yun nga hindi na ako straight edge cause I drink occasionally na.

Hindi phase ang straightedge sa buhay ng tao. Para maging straightedge ka at least man lang alam mo yung bandang minor threat. Affiliated ito sa hardcore punk movement.

basically pinagsama lang at inimbento ng vegan reich ito pa nga pangalan ng unang release at record label, hindi rin sumikat comercially katulad ng dischord. Sa totoo lang nakakakita ko ng mga ganyang tao mapa sa net o irl at isa sila sa pinaka hindi positive na tao itong mga vegan straightedgers dahil sa napaka extremely militant lifestyle na sinusundan nila

Anyway, I think its pretty lame to ask if a SxE person is 'RAKERS' or not. To TS: Please define first the term "ROCKERS". Then let's re-asses things if a SxE person is a 'Rakers' according to your understanding or not. :) Peace!!! :)
