How can I remove this sticker mark on my guitar?
« on: March 04, 2009, 07:44:03 PM »
There's this brownish color mark on my guitar, most probably because of a sticker that was put on the guitar before I got it. I need help on how to remove this without getting a new paint job. And btw would anyone know if paint thinner could remove this? And what can I mix the paint thinner with so that the effect would not be strong on the paint job of the guitar. Any suggestion that could help me would be welcome.

Here's a pic of my guitar(Blue tele), the mark could be seen on the top half of the guitar.

Alright I'll try that out. But would you know how much it would cost to buy the rubber compound and to get the guitar buffed?

bili ka sa mga PAINT SPECIALTY STORES nung Rubbing compound may tingi lang nun pwedeng 20 or 40 pesos depende kung pano sila magtingi, pero madami na yun magagamit mo pa for future uses...kung pa buff naman kahit yung sa mga auto repaint shops lang kahit abutan mo na lang yung magbubuff kasi saglit lang yan i ba buff baka di pa kumain ng 5 mins or less yan.

Residue can EASILY be removed by WD40. However, I dont think this is residue. Same thing happened to a friend's guitar. The color of the guitar may darken or fade (maybe because of exposure to light and the elements) through time but the finish beneath the sticker stays the same. Now when you remove the sticker, you have a silhouette of the sticker in a different hue from the rest of the guitar. I dont think this can be removed. Unless, you find a way to age the part where the sticker was, i think its impossible na ipantay uli. Have it refinished in the same color.

If it really is residue, as in yung kita mo na its just on the surface ng paint, then use a clean cloth with a dab of lighter fluid or WD40.

our secret sticker removing in the advertising field is plain old lighter fluid. just soak the sticker, or residue with it then wipe away with a piece of cloth. We even use it to transfer serial numbers of cellphones , jar labels, decals etc.

Dude, are the marks due to "gum adhesive" or paint discoloration?  Kung gum adhesive, baby oil and similar liquids would do.  Kung paint discoloration, sa tingin ko rubbing compound would blend the light and dark areas (siyempre, medyo tatangalin ng kaunti yung light areas).  Of course, the best recourse would be a refinish, but that would take away the mojo.

lagay ka ng konting cooking oil sa daliri tapos lightly rub in a circular motion sa surface.

LOL! I think the rubbing compound technique would do and the buffing of the guitar. Just don't have the time yet.
