Title: Stagg amp thread (Cheap but Good Sounding amp review)
Post by: music_adik_to on August 26, 2010, 08:31:13 PM

eto pala specs nya...

Stagg 60W
-2 channels(Clean & Distortion)
-Bass,Mid and Treble EQ
-Reverb
-Effects Loop(Send & Return) ports
-CD,MP3 in port
-Phones port
-Footswitch port

nice review dude.
fair sound, even though its from a low quality digicam...i can hear it sounds great in actuality.

also,
are you using an ibanez SA series with true-duo-bucker pick-ups?

i was thinking, its the duo-buckers that helped with the sound, but since it's stock... so, ayos talaga yang amp na yan.

great buy man.

I bought this kind of amp last May sa SPL-Raon. SObrang flexible and hell of a loud amp for small church/venue.

my only concern on this amp is when i use my zoom g1 sa fx loop, medyo malakas ang hum pag engage ng od sa amp. pero kung wala sa loop yung g1, ok naman sya. sa g1 ko na siguro ang problem if you guys tried to loop your multi fx on this amp at wala naman hum.

here's my share:

just try to cut your hi freq tapos boost mo yung low. bahala ka na with your taste of mids kung boosted or scooped.

as for its built in OD, pwede na rin.

I use my modded mt2 kasi whenever i want chuggy sounds eh.

uu bro... eq lang... wala naman sigurong problema sa "chug Chug since its a 12" speaker... sa demo medyo nag metal ako ng onte... di ko lang nilakasan kasi di kaya nung camera... :)

i think sufficient enough. no mic.

si sir turi. hehehe. same specs n stagg 60 yung isang model nila na rg60. same specs talaga ang price. yung rg100 nila is 100 watts 2x12 na. aroung 200$ lang sa musicians friend. yung r660 yung 60 watts e may out for ext cab. o di ba?  :-D

got the 250gar w/ 412...base on my experience with this amp, ayos yong tone nya..especially plugging directly to the amp...kaya nya yong mga vintage sound ng mga lumang amp.  using analog pedals, maganda ang response nya...for multi, better to loop it in the amp to maximize the tonal qualities of both the amp and the multi...im using gfx5...the built in od satisfies your tone if you are into 80's and 90's music...the only hang up with this, is the limited reverb...parang kapos...for overall performance, hindi ka papahiya during gigs...either you use it for rhythm or for solo stuff in your songs, panalo!... :-)

got the 250gar w/ 412...base on my experience with this amp, ayos yong tone nya..especially plugging directly to the amp...kaya nya yong mga vintage sound ng mga lumang amp.  using analog pedals, maganda ang response nya...for multi, better to loop it in the amp to maximize the tonal qualities of both the amp and the multi...im using gfx5...the built in od satisfies your tone if you are into 80's and 90's music...the only hang up with this, is the limited reverb...parang kapos...for overall performance, hindi ka papahiya during gigs...either you use it for rhythm or for solo stuff in your songs, panalo!... :-)

wow... Sound Clips Sir... or Video Clips the Better!!!  :-D

sinong merong kustom kg112fx? 20 watts with 12" speaker? pedal friendly kaya ito? is it loud enough para makasabay sa hard hitting drummer sa rehearsal sa kwarto for a rock band? tonewise? watya say? kasi kung loud enough tong kustom isa to sa kandidato ko na bibilhin.

alin? yung kustom ? solid state lang. i remember nung nagjam kami dati pa 2003. yung pinakamalakas na amp namin nun is washburn bad dog 25 watts 8" speaker. nakakasabay sa full band praktis namin a. di pa umuutot speaker. so malamang yan pa kaya.

eto pala specs nya...

Stagg 60W
-2 channels(Clean & Distortion)
-Bass,Mid and Treble EQ
-Reverb
-Effects Loop(Send & Return) ports
-CD,MP3 in port
-Phones port
-Footswitch port

I saw the demo and I was tempted to buy this amp before also but I opted for a small tube amp instead.

AMP Settings:
OD Channel VOL = 10 o clock
OD GAIN = 100%
Master = 45%

G2Nu Settings:
EQ = Manomano.

Guitar PU settings Volume
Bridge: 10
Neck: 1 (For CLean)

AS IN! Brutal!

ALL I NEED now is yung FOOTSWITCH.

ANong compatible na pinakamurang matinong footswitch available satin?

Front o sa efx loop? kung efx loop unang una sya sa chain di ba? ewan haha. kasi g2nu ko dun ko nilagay im only using yung EQ.  :-D

Your signal goes like this:
Guitar -- Amp

Amp is divided into two sections --> Preamp and Poweramp

Effects loop is between the Preamp and Poweramp.

Guitar -- EQ pedal -- Preamp -- Poweramp

Guitar -- Preamp -- EQ Pedal -- Poweramp

+1 sa footswitch! may standard schematic or type ba 'to? so we know what to look for in a footswitch, or what to tell our DIYers!  not familiar with amp channel switchers (or any switches for that matter!) eh, pero it's the type na isa lang yung jack.

Hindi standard eh. Iba-iba rin ang design ng mga footswitch. Pero, more often than not, sa mga amp na may built-in effects at iisang OD channel lang, madali lang ang footswitch niyan.

I made one for my classic30.

Bale usually either yung tip or ring ng plug ang magcocontrol sa OD channel of built-in effects kung i-eengage or io-off.

kayang-kaya yan iDIY kung ganun lang, which I assume ay ganun nga lang.  :-)

That means, kailangan mo pa ng cable adaptor (less reliable since most of them are bull crap).

It's output goes to the CD/mp3 input.

tnx bro..hehe  :-D

..so those adaptors don't really work that well?sayang..maybe there's a quality one..or palitan na talaga yung plug sa 1/8"..hehe

..parang mahal kasi mga PA eh..was hoping an amp like this could be a perfect option (mura lang eh) with a mfx with amp sims

..and kasi kung pede gawin ganito - mfx with amp sims>CD/mp3/aux in..ibig sabihin non dadami na choices ng amps..

kunwari..me amp ako na trip ko yung sound ng guitar>amp na set up..i don't need another amp if i decide to use an mfx with amp sims..plug ko lang mfx sa CD/mp3 di ba..solved..isang amp lang..i won't worry na about 'coloration' pag mfx gamit kung plug ko na sa CD/mp3 di ba?tama ba?

..hirap kasi maghanap ng murang amp na me effects loop..eto lang ata nakita ko na decente sa around 6k budget..but a lot of small amps already have CD/mp3 inputs..

What most guys do with a multi-effects setup is they use a keyboard amp. Mas flat kasi ang overall EQ nun. Mas madaling maghanap nun. Sa input ka rin koconnect.

onga eh..(made a thread before about that..hehe)..parang lumalabas mahal din kasi keyboard amp..mahirap to find one on budget..mahal at malaki mga nasuggest (IIRC)..kaya kung theoretically flat din ang CD/mp3..di versatile na yon di ba?kung gusto mo analog or recta na set up pede pa sya..so one amp lang kelangan di ba..kung me speaker out pa para sa cab..ayos na talaga..

..the only problem with the stagg 60w is it's too big eh..maganda sana a small amp with effects loop and speaker out na mura (6-7k)..eh wala atang ganon..pero small budget friendly amps with CD/mp3..meron eh..

bought a stagg 40W with reverb sa store nila sa may commonwealth. i got it for around 4.5K. sobrang sulit! it's a great practice amp kasi effects friendly and it is really loud. I used it with my band na and di siya nalulunod sa lakas ng ibang instruments. it has a clear, crisp, raw clean sound (maririnig mo talaga character ng guitar mo), a usable EQ (treb, 2 mids, bass), and an "eeh" overdrive feature (didn't like it so much). i use my Greg Bennett FA2 connected to my Zoom GFX5 through this amp. This is what i call "bang for the buck"!

if stagg amps are pedal friendly, is it guitar friendly as well? I'm using a RJ Tele with stock pickups (i will replace it with artec dual rails soon). My pedal board setup is behringer hellbabe, behringer DM100, boss ds1(brit mod), digitech bad monkey, boston flanger, dod fx65 stereo chorus & zoom 505. Yung ginanamit ko kasi ngayon is boston 15w orange copy amp. Medyo nahihirapan ako magtimpla.

mahihirapan ka talaga magtimpla kasi 15 watts lang yung amp mo ngayon e. kung gusto mong mas malaki ang range ng timplahan at di bitin... try mo yung stagg ga 40 r (40 watts with 10" speaker) or stagg ga 60 r (60 watts with 12" speaker).

pedal friendly sya kahit pa analogs or multi or hybrid.

tip lang bro... bilhin mo na yung 60 watts if ever para may effects loop (dun mo isasaksak mga multi and/or mga modulations, delay, reverb). tsaka bili ka ng EQ for more tone shaping. For me kasi bitin yung EQ ng amp lang (sakin lang a maybe sayo ok na malay mo).

good luck bro.  8-)

What is the sound of the built-in OD at 0 gain?  Clean or a transparent low breakup(TS9 sound) or a classic overdrive(BOSS OD sound)?

olats!  :-D as in 0-10. try mo para malaman mo sinasabi ko. bigla kang matatawa.

ganito ba? guitar=>multi in=>multi out=>efx return(amp)???

is it worth it to go all the way to 60w even though mas cheaper yung 40w, hesitation ko lang po kasi baka medyo mahina yung 40w para sa mga mini gig ko pero masooner naman ako makakabili ng 40w sa 60w?? what do you think??

depende pa rin yan sa taste ng rock and metal tone taste mo e. try mo pareho. pareho silang pedal friendly for me... pero kung gusto mong "plain water clean" dun ka sa stagg pero pag gusto mo ng "lemonade cleans" dun ka sa peavey bandit/envoy. try it both. mahirap pag kami e. kasi iba ang taste ng bawat individual kahit pa metal/rock/grindcore/crustpunk/etc pa yan.  8-) sparkling cleans (peavey), boring plain clean sound (Stagg).

Rock and metal? Go for the Stagg GA60.
Why? Kasi malaki speaker niya (12"). It would deliver that mid-scooped bottom end oomph better than the Envoy which only has 10". Mas mataas pa wattage ng Stagg. Meaning, it can give you a clear clean sound at louder volumes compared sa Envoy.

umm anong sound gusto niyo po maachieve? kasi in my experience medyo hindi pleasant ipush yung overdrive ng mga solid state amps...
but then again, depende rin yun sa tastes niyo....ano po current drive pedal niyo?

have you tried the boss od-3 or the bd-2?

pwede rin ang walang kamatayang tubescreamer from ibanez... ts808 or ts9 or you can get the botique ones...that are flooding the internet...

I used to own a Stagg amp na 60 watts.  Maganda ang tunog nya, wala akong masabing negative.  Pero binenta ko sya after a month.  The reason why binenta ko sya is because of the weight...  Ang hirap bitbitin sa togs.   :-(

Another kwento...

So, alam mo kung gaano sya kabigat.

Hehehehe...

I've only tried these once with a Strat and it sounded pretty dark to me. Is that the case for most of these Staggs? Then again, I use 1 meg pots on single coils so I might be expecting too much. :|

Yes, sir. I even tried my friend's set of monster cables. Ganun parin. I even borrowed a couple of stomps from a band mate and some friends.. ganun parin. The last thing that I did is tried my Zoom 505. Guess what? May buzz parin kahit anong tweak ang gawin ko from the pedal to the amp.

Tried the little brother. The Stagg GA40. I have to agree that the EQs are not that responsive. And yung sa na test kong unit, medyo maingay yung drive channel. The drive channel doesn't jive with my taste too. IMHO.  YMMV :)

Since some report here na may problem yung brand new amp nila while other don't. What does this imply kaya?  :-)

Nakatodo ba yung gain niya? I also tried sa GAR 40 with the gain knob at max and may noise nga siya. Siguro dahil nakatodo ang gain?

I can't remember though. The last time I've tested it is maybe late last year. I wasn't convinced and the noise really bothered me. Kaya this made me think twice getting its bigger brother. Sayang lang kasi 12 inch yung speaker which is ideal (considering its price). Pero I'd rather hold on and save some more for a better amp. YMMV  :)

Ito yung ikono-complain ko sa kanila. The next time that I went back to have it replaced, nauwi lang sa jamming kasi walang stock na pwedeng ipamalit. Last friday, bumalik ulit ako, bringing my amp and rig. Testing ulit until I satisfied their ears na may buzzing sound kapag naka-engage yung DS-1.

So hindi siya gain related? I mean baka masyadong mataas yung gain ng DS-1? hmmm..I'll check this out later. magtetest ako ng GAR 60 mamaya e. I'll bring my gain pedals.

Better if you bring your pedals, chief. Yep, mataas yung gain. Pero kahit ganun, dapat walang buzzing sound. Kahit bawasan ko yun gain (DS-1) meron talaga. Pero I think magugustuhan mo parin ang 60GAR.  :)

Well you weren't wrong when you said na magugustuhan ko yung 60GAR sir. I loved the creaminess of the overdrive channel, it's responsive to the volume knob of the guitar and the Reverb is very decent. I brought my gain pedals and wala naman akong narinig na buzz or hissing sound (except nung sinagad ko yung gain nung pedals and engaged the boost) so I think may defect nga yung amp na nakuha mo?  :-(

We bought the last 2 units of the 60GAR at TMS alimall..medyo mabigat din yung amp and carrying 2 of those is no joke.. :-P

Yeah reliability has always been the question for me on the GAR60. Have seen some that have shady pots or worse breakdown completely in less than a year of heavy gigging. That said this is a great platform for modelers.

and the GAR20 and 40 s well. I had a GAR20 and same experience. shady pots. 8 oclock sounded like 12 oclock already on the volume pot. but yes, I do agree, its as flat as it gets. great for amp sims and amp in a box pedals!

if it were super durable, it would've been a great alternative to the Peavey Bandit, me thinks at least.

Pots and the speaker. The speaker they put on the GAR60 is closer to a hifi speaker, imo. Ang talim masyado!
