Recommend a simple band studio setup
« on: August 15, 2007, 10:58:29 PM »
first sorry kung meron ng katulad itong thread na ito. i tried searching for this kind of thread pero hirap kasi dahil wala pala ditong search thread function.

DRUMSET -
GUITAR1 -
GUITAR2 -
BASS -
GUITAR1 AMP -
GUITAR2 AMP -
BASS AMP -
MIC -
GUITAR EFFECTS - 2 Boss DS1 for Guitar 1 & 2.

=======================
tsaka ano bang kaibahan ng mga mumurahin drum sets kesa dun sa mamahlin like Pearl and Yamaha 42k above? sa materials ba?
===========

add ko lang sir...aside from the setup/instruments na kailangan mo...one of the most important is yung pag-soundproof sa studio  :wink:

im massing up my gear too, i'll be opening a studio by january and here are some of my purchases/choices

DRUMSET - fernando fusion kit (worth 28k with entry level cymbals, last thing to buy after the studio is setup)
GUITAR1 - fernandes telecaster bought at pier 5k (2nd hand)
GUITAR2 - fernandes strat bought at pier 5k (2nd hand)
BASS - 4string ibanez bass also from pier 7k (2nd hand)
GUITAR1 AMP - peavey studio pro 112
GUITAR2 AMP - still looking for something around the 50 watt range, aiming for a marshall mg50
BASS AMP - hartke ha2000 head with home made 2x10 cab
MIC - samson r21 mic pack (3 mics for 2k) it sounds good enough and wont make you cry if its ever mistreated/mishandled but handling noise is a biyatch
GUITAR EFFECTS - i wont invest in these

you forgot your PA system : i got a behringer ub1202 mixer, konzert k2 amp and will buy a 2way speaker with 15" woofers. hoping to add a compressor and a reverb unit too probably from behringer also. i went with this setup coz i already have the mixer and the amp but if i will get another chance to acquire a system it will be:

- a powered mixer with built in effects with a passive set of speakers
- get a mixer with built in effects then get powered speakers (much more expensive option)

i bought used guitars because bands will likely have them already and again, you wont cry if the guitar player dings the finish. by the way, the guitars are in perfect condition (had them serviced by our local luthiers) and will play better than the sta. mesa guitars. my thinking is that offering old high quality guitars > cheap brand new guitars.

drum sets naman, it will depend on your priority: budget or durability? for me, the fernando drums are the best compromise for budget, durability and SOUND. the white finish on the kit is also very very classy. i was impressed after i saw them at jb and was convinced after using a kit from a friend. hardware is the same quality as those that come with the pearl forum kit (which is good enough but not better than pearl exports).

pearl exports and yamaha rydeens are nice but to be honest, their prices are not attractive anymore (especially the rydeens). sure they are sturdy and durable but you will get better value from gretsch catalinas within the same price range. you can get a 6-piece catalina against a 5-piece pearl or yamaha. better yet, you get better entry level cymbals with a catalina than the other two.

@peeves24

thank you very much. you sure do have a lot of knowledge setting up a music studio. tagal ko na rin kasi hindi nakakapasok music studio, college pa nung huli, that was 5 yrs ago na yata and hindi ko man lang noon naiisip na maginspect and observe ng mga gamit nila noon kasi hindi ko man lang naisip na magse-setup ako ng studio. what do you mean by PA system? parang mixer?

saan yan pier na yan? 50 watts recomended mong amps? magkano rough estimate mo capital?

dude di pwedeng wala kang PA system, unless puro instrumentals lang ang tutugtugin nung mga band  :-D para sa vocals yung PA mo. the mixer is part of your PA which essentially consist of mics, mixer, amp, speakers and optional effects gear. 150 watts per channel is ok pero matatabunan pa rin yung vocals kapag nagkasarapan na. 250 watts and above are great

50 watts of guitar amp power is not my recommendation to you. that's what i bought coz i know cranking it will already slam the poor geetar player's head to the back wall considering my future rehearsal studio's space is small (18 sq meters only). actually a cranked 15 watt practice amp already makes me deaf inside such a small space but i bought something larger just because 'size does matter'

guitar1 = amp1
guitar2 = amp2
bass1 = amp3
mic1/mic2/mic3 = ewan ko kung san ko isasaksak
drumset

question po.. ilang square meters at least ang nararapat sa isang rehearsal studio? let's say, lalagyan ng 2 guitars, bass, drums, keys & vox? thanks for taking your time to answer..:)

Most mixers usually come with at least 2 mic preamps, sufficient for studio practice setups.
