im massing up my gear too, i'll be opening a studio by january and here are some of my purchases/choices
DRUMSET - fernando fusion kit (worth 28k with entry level cymbals, last thing to buy after the studio is setup)
GUITAR1 - fernandes telecaster bought at pier 5k (2nd hand)
GUITAR2 - fernandes strat bought at pier 5k (2nd hand)
BASS - 4string ibanez bass also from pier 7k (2nd hand)
GUITAR1 AMP - peavey studio pro 112
GUITAR2 AMP - still looking for something around the 50 watt range, aiming for a marshall mg50
BASS AMP - hartke ha2000 head with home made 2x10 cab
MIC - samson r21 mic pack (3 mics for 2k) it sounds good enough and wont make you cry if its ever mistreated/mishandled but handling noise is a biyatch
GUITAR EFFECTS - i wont invest in these
you forgot your PA system : i got a behringer ub1202 mixer, konzert k2 amp and will buy a 2way speaker with 15" woofers. hoping to add a compressor and a reverb unit too probably from behringer also. i went with this setup coz i already have the mixer and the amp but if i will get another chance to acquire a system it will be:
- a powered mixer with built in effects with a passive set of speakers
- get a mixer with built in effects then get powered speakers (much more expensive option)
i bought used guitars because bands will likely have them already and again, you wont cry if the guitar player dings the finish. by the way, the guitars are in perfect condition (had them serviced by our local luthiers) and will play better than the sta. mesa guitars. my thinking is that offering old high quality guitars > cheap brand new guitars.
drum sets naman, it will depend on your priority: budget or durability? for me, the fernando drums are the best compromise for budget, durability and SOUND. the white finish on the kit is also very very classy. i was impressed after i saw them at jb and was convinced after using a kit from a friend. hardware is the same quality as those that come with the pearl forum kit (which is good enough but not better than pearl exports).
pearl exports and yamaha rydeens are nice but to be honest, their prices are not attractive anymore (especially the rydeens). sure they are sturdy and durable but you will get better value from gretsch catalinas within the same price range. you can get a 6-piece catalina against a 5-piece pearl or yamaha. better yet, you get better entry level cymbals with a catalina than the other two.
