hehehe

kayo naman mga master magshare...

happy drumming

Ako!  :-D

Kolumn Bar, Timog
Sobrang naghihingalo na yung Fernando drumset nila! The amps are okay. A mix of Fender and Marshall. The mics? Can't go wrong with Shure. Tapos yung drumset? Nightmare! Buti na lang I bring 1/3 of my kit every time we play there.

Nightmare Setup:
-90's model Fernando with a mix of stock and Lazer heads (sadly, eto na yung pinaka magandang part sa buong kit)
-Generic Hi-hat stand that has a 35% chance to get stuck when you push the pedal down too hard
-A rusty paiste 101 for a top hi-hat, and a (get this!) FORMER 18" Sabian B8 crash cracked to the bell and cut down to 14" for a bottom hi-hat
-An unknown 16" cymbal warped beyond recognition for a ride. Absolutely useless.
-A Paiste 101 crash cracked from edge to bell. Sounds like yero. Seriously.
-Snare and hi-hat stand with some memory locks removed, hastily secured with electrical tape meaning... no adjustments!
-Two cymbal stands also taped down. The boom moves away from you when you strike a cymbal with moderate force.
-No drum throne! You get to sit on an unadjustable wooden chair!

Yung manager pa nung production, nagrequest na hiramin yung Scimitar Hihats (binili ko kay Sir Dennis!) and yung Planet Z Crash Ride ko for the whole set kundi i-cacancel nia daw yung tugtugan for that evening. Eh nakakahiya naman sa 14 bands na naka line-up na para sa gabing 'yon, so I reluctantly agreed. (Yung Crash Ride, medyo okay lang kasi Planet Z, but the HATS! Metal tugtugan ng halos lahat ng banda so I winced in pain every time each stranger pounded on my precious hi-hats. I checked them every after set and as the night came to a close, I was relieved that my precious Scimitars withstood the dozen or so metal drummers. Hehe. My bar review turned into a rant. Pasensya na. Post your nightmarish sound setup stories too!

Additional: Pineapple juice = P75! Mineral water = P35! Awfully expensive items on the menu, and it's not even a top-class bar!

eto aken

last month lang sumali ako sa Battle of the Bands.
Pero men talagang wala

Mostly of the gig house in the country is a headache... Very disastrous.... Only a few bar that maintain a very great equipment... Like 19east is a perfect gig house a 100% very good rating and Hardrock is around 70% good Co'z the Yamaha Maple Custom there is needs a replacement already... But still in good sound Co'z of good sound system and a good sound tech... But still the drum kit needs a replacement....

And the rest of the gig house in the country is a One Big pain in the ass... Not just the drum kit but the whole sound system as well.... They really sucks... this Gig house they do not want to invest on their Band and sound equipments... But still they want bands performing on there place... WTF! We bands can't do anything about it unfortunately.... the owners of this gig houses don't know nothing...

I hope the bar owners here in the country do realize how important the drum set is in the stage equipment set up. we're not asking for a pricey top of the line drum set, we just want a decent one. right?

When I say decent it means the drum set is in good condition. what do I mean by that?

-The drum heads are intact. no electric tape or scotch tape on the heads.

-The hardware must be in decent condition. the cymbal stands and snare stand must be adjustable, so you can adjust them according to your set up. most of the cymbal stands on bars has masking tape and steel wire. (wtf!!!!)

-The cymbal set up must be complete and in decent condition. A drum set with hats, crash and ride is a must. (come on bar owners! we're not asking for a cymbal set up like Mike Portnoy's or Terry Bozzio's. you must understand that having hats, crash and ride is STANDARD. Planet Zs and ZBTs are fine (BASTA MERON AYUS NA!) If you can provide Ks or As much better! but if you don't have enough budget, a simple cymbal set up will do.

-The drum pedal must be working. (as simple as that amigo!)

-Having a drum chair is a must(No monoblocks and wooden chair pls)

-Having a drum carpet is a must! (go figure why?!)

I've been playing on different bars since 1998 that's why I learned my lesson. Now I bring almost my entire kit para walang hassle. Bass drum lang hindi ko dala. but sad to say, during my last gig in Club Dredd Eastwood, the bass drum is Fcuked up! butas ang drum head.. Oh well!!!
