Which one do you prefer? Im torn between the 3 primes. 50mm 85mm and 105mm. I shoot an aps sensor cam. Does the 50mm quite short on the focal length.? What areyou using by the way?

how about the nikon 85mm 1.8g. I found the sample pics absolutely superb. My major drawback is the built. A lot says its not durable and some have autofocus issues. So im thinking of the 85mm 1.8 d instead which also has 9 blades which is better i believe.

Tried my friend's Nikon 85mm 1.8G. All I can say is.. it's damn sharp. The one I'm using is just Canon's 50mm 1.8. For portraits, I prefer the 85mm's focal length (not sure if I'm using the right term). Sa 50mm kasi, parang nasisikipan ako. Didn't had the chance to try out his 35mm. Maybe later.

ok lang bro yung 85mm 1.8g, ive tried it. yung focusing niya and sharpness wide open is superb for me. plasticky and magaan, walang problema sakin yun hehe though i havent tried yung luma the D lens, i can recommend the G lens for you

IMHO the 85mm 1.8's superb depth of field is the reason.. it helped emphasize the subject thus add up to the notion of "sharpness" since the background is smoothly blurred.. I dunno about those with IS/VR and autofocus speed as I love using "manual focus" old metal lens.

Pero if you come to think of it even the 55-200mm 8.5-5.6 can also mimic the way the 85mm performs on portrait.. mejo soft nga lang yung subject like how the 50mm 1.2 performs.. superb fast lens pero the subject is soft.

sharpest for me is the 35mm 1.8 and 50mm 1.4

yep, hindi ngalang talaga sya mag auto focus or anything that the lens itself does via mechanism..

oks din naman yung mga bagong plastic bodies, its easier to use it since may autofocus and IS/VR capabilities na.. ako lang kasi oldskul lover at mas nasanay ako sa manual focus kaya mas fan ako nung old metal body lenses.

yup ganda old metal lens. meron din ako dx lens na 35mm f1.8. crisp output.

Around there. Mga 75mm yata. If i'd go 50mm pupunta ako sa 50mm 1.2 pero im still leaning on the 85mm focal length. I probably go 85mm 1.8 on the nikon instead of the 1.4. Either go for the g or the d. Basta 85mm .

Aabang muna ako. Mukhang may ilalabas ang nikon na mga f1.2 primes next year. A new 50mm f1.2 and 60mm f1.2. hehe.

All I can say living with life at 1.4 is its damn hard to use it in portrait mode wide open. I have the 85 1.4 and on a cropped sensor is great as long as you can move around. I do find myself stopping it down to 2 - 2.8 coz its so hard to keep both eyes in focus when doing tight full face headshots with the lens wide open.

Guess i need to practice a lot to get that right. I can imagine the 85 1.8 to be almost the same in performance. I had the 50 1.4 manual which was also a very good lens but I prefer the 85 mm focal length.

I use zooms for portrait shots are 24-70L F2.8 and the 70-200L F2.8 IS (Canon user). I use them mainly for wedding gigs since zooms are much more versatile in terms of composition choices.

But I always try to avoid shooting wide to avoid subject distortions especially when using full frame body.
