Shouldn't this be in the pop forum? (there's no R&B forum so that would do)

At kelan pa naging jazz ang tugtugan ng South Border??!?!??!?!?!

Oo nga't kaya nina Jay at Butch at Tata mag-jazz, HINDI JAZZ ANG TOGS NG SOUTH BORDER.

R&B, Pop, Funk, Soul -- oo.

Jazz --- hindi.

This is one of my favorite local bands. World-class IMO.  :-)
I've watched them live in Eastwood before, & even in live performances, ang linis ng tunog nila.

It's a pop/r&b song, though the short instrumental part in the middle may have a jazz influence.

Hay, naku. Huwag na nating pagtalunan iyan. Pag-usapan na lang natin sila.

Galing nila! Gustung-gusto ko yung Luke Mijares (?) period nila. Sayang, di na siya vox nila. How would their first album sound if they did it with Luke?  :-)

southborder, one of my favorite pop/rnb band here in the philippines, they make good music. been very lucky to design their website www.southborder.net but now its under a new designer because i resigned from the company, sobrang bait pa ng members.

my opinion, i think their first album would sound much better if they did it with luke mejares.

While South Border is certainly capable of playing jazz and some of their tunes exhibit a strong influence, hindi jazz ang bagay na classification sa kanila kundi Pop/R&B.

hahahaha sir aya. naalala ko lng ung 1 post sumwhere here dropping sinosikat as jazz..

same answer  :-)

In the same way as David Sanborn plays pop instrumental with bits of RnB and Jazz thrown in, South Border treads the same ground.

At baka ma misinterpret, that still doesn't diminish the band's cred in tightness and Lupit Factor.

Wow ...South Border fan.

I am a hard-core SB fan. It started way back when Jay and Brix were still doing vocal duties for the band. lahat yata ng show nila d2 sa manila di ko na miss. I guess I just fell in love with the music.

Swerte na lang cguro that South Border's Duncan Ramos happens to be a very good friend and bandmate before he became one of SB's premier frontman. NOthing against Duncan though, I still miss the Luke Mejares era. It is the era where Jay Durias revolutionized the sound of the band and eventually layed the foundations of the phat, grooving melodies that he formulated to create the sound that we hear today.

Currently the band is in the US trying to spread the music and establish their fanbase abroad. With their caliber, its not far from reality. Durias, having that soulful ala Brian Mcknight voice coupled with his wizardry over ivory plus Vince and Duncan's  hypnotic vocal prowess, the trio will set ablaze on foreign grounds. Lets just hope the US soil will provide them equal opportunities to shine abroad.

exactly. sir dc2005 i've seen their US itinerary and they've been going around bars and clubs with walk-in audiences (not the usual Filipino COmmunity shows) and let's hope the guys get the break. Now they sound so Phatt, ud swear you can smell the funk in their material, but I still am not into rainbow, though  :-D

sir frog OT muna: Had a chance to LW Paul Gilbert and Shawn Lane's Let It Be (audio lang, Live). U heard that one na? :-D

Amen.  Sana nga they can get some headway breaking into the US market.

Dito natin malalaman talaga kung lahat ng pinagyayabang nating kagalingan ng musikong Pinoy ay totoo.

Breaking into a foreign market is no walk in the park...  marami-rami na tayong artists na sumubok but with not much success.  kani-kaniyang tago na lang para di mapahiya.

Go South Border!
