anybody heard about the Alpha Drive from Freekish Blues that sells at $200 approx? turns out it's simply a rehoused Joyo Ultimate Drive (about $40 here sa atin).

okgb- the alpha drive is pretty new and is supposed to detrone the Zendrive as the best dumble pedal ato date. It's a very bassy pedal. I loved the sound clips but I really only like it with the bridge pickup of a tele with my rig so far. I have the board cleaned and will take some good pics so no one else has to bother. The IC is a TL082CN, there are 3 transistors (one BS170 and two 2N7000), four diodes (two 1n4001 and I'm not sure about the other ones. One is a fairly large clear glass with a red stripe and the other is the small glass orange and black one). The pots are: OD- B1M, Vol- B500K, Tone-A10K. 17 resistors and 13 caps (11 film and 2 electrolytic- 100uf/25v and a 10uF/25v). The resistors are really small and it's hard to see the bands. I'm hoping the camera will help. I'll take pics by the window to get some natural light so maybe that will help with colors. I can see almost all of the caps but it's really hard to read the component labels (EX: C1, C2, ect). They are super small and are right under where the component solders in. I 'm not too good with tracing circuits but I should be able to get some good pics and identify everything on the board.

I've seen people from LPF and MLPF mod some madbean pedals and had great results cloning zendrive and KLON :-D

actually the ULDrive is a clone of the OCD, and then it appears FBlues used the same pedal, changed some part values, bridged some pots, repainted it and marketed with a 400% mark up. :-P

With the 4 simple parts to replace, if you go to raon and do the DIY yourself wala pang 20 pesos sa parts. The resistor parts on the potentiometers was just to change the value of the taper. Siguro walang mabilihan na value yung si Ken ng FB so he did a shortcut. Hinihintay ko yung thread nila until someone can post an actual mod done on the Joyo pedal.

sound-wise it is just an OCD clone with a different taper ng pots because of the resistors added parallel to the potentiometer. price-wise, the UDrive will still be cheaper.

try watching yung demo vid nyan sa youtube. i think watched the ones from cranbournemusic (tama ba?).. ewan ko kung ako lang, pero parang hindi ako nagandahan sa tunog niya. parang malayo sa crunhbox.. but still, the best would be to try the pedal personally.

SAbi niya 3 years ago nagpa-mass produce sila sa isang overseas company nung design nila na circuit taz they found out na binebenta yung design nila. Ang malabo dun bakit kung alam niya na ninakawan siya ng design ng isang company hindi man lang niya dinemanda o inaanounce so forums na ninakaw yung design niya within those years. Kung totoo man yun, bakit inspite of everything, ginamit pa rin niya yung board ng nagnakaw sa kanya.
May ibang Alpha Drive units kasi din hindi masyadong binura yung J. Wong na nakaprint dun s circuit board at siyempre yung iba tinanggal yung goop na pangit din ang pagkakaapply so nabuking na cheap parts lang ang nasa loob. Bale ang nangyayari lang bumibili lang sila ng Joyo taz palit lang ng 4(?) resistors, repaint tapos icclaim nila na "designed, engineered at handcrafted in a basement." Chinese sweatshop basement pala. lol..Ang henyong idea dun eh nilagyan pa nila ng 4 weeks waiting time para mukha talagang boutique.
Ang tanong sa mga modders natin dito, kung ang Ultimate Drive clone ng OCD at sa konting palit lang ng resistors magiging Alpha Drive ang sound niya, pwede bang maging switcheable between "OCD-mode" at "Alpha Drive-mode" yung Ultimate Drive?

The right amount of drive is there, may mali lang sa tapering ng mga potentiometers ng Joyo kaya makikita mo sa mod resistors ang nilagay sa pots. Tapos may isang capacitor na binago C9 daw pero parang C7 yung napalitan, for sure sa tone ang pagbabago ng capacitor.

My thoughts exactly, kung nag outsource nga talaga sila para gawin ang board nila, wala na sanang mga goop yung nasa alpha drive, malinis dapat. Meron kasing magbubukas at magbubukas ng pedal na yan no matter what, and it is somehow stupid not to see that coming :lol:

yep. the UD being mass produced will beat any boutique version nyan kahit DIY pa. etching and populating a board alone takes several hours na. napakaliit na difference sa cost naman kung imomod pa yan. i mean, it's already an OCD copy. kataasan yung low-pass filtering lang nabago with AD dun sa capacitor change nila, and yung sweep ng pots because of the bridge resistors. idk, i am personally not a fan of the OCD but more of the voodoo labs OD. kung imomod yung UD, tingin ko mas maganda kung yung mismong pots na lang ang papalitan with the "correct" values. still, i think it's impractical already to mod this thing kung yun lang naman ang babaguhin. idk. simply because as a builder i usually prefer to play with a pedal's strengths rather than focus on its weaknesses, hangga't maari.
wag kayo maya pa magkandarapa tayo sa freakish joyo pedals pag namod ng malupet. "the right mod formula". :evil:
ugh. sana nga tol may "right mod formula", instead na "hype job mod formula" na prevalent already. and hope credit goes where credit is due :-)

Das Ding klingt gut, es gibt nur 2 SMD Widerstände und zwar den vorwiderstand der LED und einen Widerstand auf der Schalterplatine um den Effekteingang im Bypass niederohmig auf Masse zu legen. Sprich, die Dinger sind Latte und können ohne Problem auch ersetzt werden.
Die sonstigen Komponenten scheinen mir absolut iO. Spannungsfestigkeit ist bei den Cs satt gegeben, 24V kann man locker machen. Schalter und Potis sind auf den ersten Blick auch ordentlich und kein Billigst-Kram.
Einzig die Diode vor dem einen 2N7000 kann ich nicht identifizieren. Hat ein großes Glasgehäuse und erinnert entfernt an ein Glimmlämpchen, siehe Foto:

so, hab mir das Ding ma angeguckt. Im Prinzip ein OCD, irgendwie ein Versionsmischmasch, siehe Schaltung So, sabi ko sa yo Ding na anglagkit. Isipin mo pinilit na OCD, pero yung version nito mas malupit sa botik!

so I've looked at the thing ma. In principle, one OCD, sort of a hodge-podge version, see circuit

This thing sounds good, there are only two SMD resistors and the resistor while the LED and a resistor to the switch board at the entrance effect in the low-pass to put on mass. Say, those things are pale and can be replaced without problem.

The other components seem to me absolutely OK. Dielectric strength is given by the Cs tired of 24V can make you loose. Switches and potentiometers are also neat at first glance and no cheap stuff.

Only the front of the diode is a 2N7000 I can not identify. Has a large glass case and vaguely reminiscent of one Glimmlämpchen, see photo:

may nabasa rin ako, ipa-parallel daw yung resistors sa mga pots... turned out to be na papalitan lang daw yung pots ng ibang ohm value (emphasis mine):

i mod the joyo ud 330k sa gain..1.5k sa tone at 470k level at panasonic 104 cap..compare ko sa freekish blues alpha drive ko hay pareho na tunog nila.. sayang sana di nalng ako bumili freekish blues.. :-(
