probaly because, for entry levels, mas mura pear kesa tama... not to mention pearl export was named as number 1/best selling drumset...
pero for flagship drum kits, napakalayo ng presyo ng Pearl masterworks sa Tama starclassic... mas mahal pa nga yata ung Masters Custom or Premium sa Starclassic eh... just atleast sa mga entry and mid level kits, mas mura yata pearl kaya cguro ganun...

got the latest 2015 PRICE LIST of pearl Masterworks and Tama Star... [thanks google.hehe]
parang baliktad yata...shell sizes 14 snare 10 12 toms 14 16 floor toms 22 kick
kahit per individual comparison ng iba pang Shells,
PEARL Masterworks is still expensive than TAMA Star Bubinga/Maple...

TAMA price was in Euro, PEARL was in Dollar
kung direct conversion 1 Dollar=1.13Euro, MW is expensive than STAR...
at kahit iconvert muna into Philippine Peso para tumaas price ng Tama/Euro, ganun parin

*PS:one cud search, check, compare and compute, baka nagkamali lang din ako... salamat

I suggest you check USA street price kasi pwedeng inflated price ang sa price list.  For example, mataas ang presyo ng fender na amp sa price list pero iyung pala may 30% discount sa street.  Ang Mesa Boogie naman, walang discount mula sa price list.

If you check ruppsdrum.com, a Pearl Masterworks 22 inch Bass drums starts at around US$1710 while a Tama Star 22 inch Bass drum starts at around US$2450...

22 inches kick - Pearl masterworks artisan is $2,223.0, Tama Star is $2,450.00...
per official 2015 pricelist ng dalawang drum company, tama star is cheaper than masterworks artisan...
pero kung sa "streets"(music stores) ka kukuha, sabi mo nga, pweding magiba ung prices...just like any other items, na pweding magbago prices at magbigay ng discounts...

how about if one buy/order direct to pearl and tama... cud we still get the discounts?
malaking factor pag may middle musicstore... price probably wud depend on their credit/business standing(includes agreements)... kaya cguro napapababa ung prices...

or pwede ring, misleading talaga ang prices nila sa Price List.hehe
actually kahit ung TAMA STAR, 2,332.00 EURO ang 22 inches kick.. euro pa un ah... pero bakit dito sa ruppsdrums, mas mababa... :?

nhow, nice info sir...thanks

Price Lists are there to either: a) make you feel good that you are buying something cheaper than SRP or b) really tell you what the company wants to sell it at.  Pearl is of a) while Tama is of b).  That being said, quietly, Pearl and Tama can set the lowest price that they can sell their products with their dealers.

Or sometimes go on sale.

Rupps, I feel is the cheapest dealer of both you can get outside of Japan.  Rupps which is in the USA has cheaper import duties levied against Japan drum products versus Europe which has higher rate of duties.

Cheaper than local JB music or Audiophile.

Bottom Line: Street price is the determinant of the actual value of the drum.  Unless on SALE, dealers will not violate (go lower than) the lowest price set by either Tama or Pearl because they risk their distribution of said product.

I suggest you learn about retailing.  Pearl and Tama will NOT serve us directly because its against their dealership agreement.

For example, kung kakain ka sa fastfood kunyari Jollibee, if you order your sandiwich or chicken ala carte and order separate softdrinks, mas mahal pa versus combo meal di ba?  So, kaya combo meal ang kukunin mo.

Pero and hindi mo alam: Ang presyong ala carte na P15 or P20 na regular/large Coke only costs Jollibee around P1.5-P2.0.  They do this to force you to buy the combos so they can boost their Sales Value.  Why?
Kasi alam naman nila that you can ask for service water for free and have something to drink instead of spending for Coke.

I can verify this both in the marketing and retail aspects. except Php30+ na ata ang softdrinks ngayon sa Jollibee.

Nope... I am a very convinced DW guy.

By the way, if you are interested in Japanese made drums; Canopus and Sakae are considered way better than Pearl, Yamaha, or Tama in Japan. If you have the big bucks go for a Kitano.  I liked the Kitano snares I tried.

But...

In the end, American (Gretsch, Ludwig, DW) and European (Sonor, Premier -- their new line) drum made drumsets seem to sound just right to the ear.  Not to mention the many boutique brands in USA, Italy and UK.

Ako gusto ko sa Tama yung Starclassic B/B. Yung Pearl kasi bilog yung sound na madumi na tone. In general talga Pearl ako. hehe. :)
