Newbie! Buying my first camera and I need help!
« on: July 08, 2017, 03:26:59 PM »
Hi! Newbie ako pagdating sa cameras but I'm planning to start learning/doing some light film making for cinematic travel vlogs, b-rolls, etc. Mga tipong Daniel Marsh vids pero I know I have to learn some heavy editing din to achieve a good looking cinematic videos.

So ang question ko is. What kind of camera should I buy? I'm confused whether to buy a used GoPro or a used entry-level DSLR.

Naisip ko kasi yung GoPro kasi may nakita akong video sa youtube na gumawa siya ng cinematic sequences na gamit lang is GoPro, dinaan lang sa post editing (color correction, color grading, etc.) and honestly, it looks good. - Ang nacanvass ko na is used GoPro Hero 4 Silver/Black around 8-10k makuha if used. Muntik na ako bumili last week pero nag hesitate ako if ito ba yung tamang camera para sa purpose ko.

Sa DSLR naman, hindi ko pa sure kung ano advantage nito over the GoPro but ito yung madalas ko nakikita na ginagamit talaga nila to film those cinematic videos and I assume mas maganda ang quality nito? - Ang suggestions ng iba is Canon 600D, I saw some used ranging from 11k-15k. So I might have to save up a little to get this camera pero willing naman ako.

I'm trying to steer clear from mirrorless cameras kasi mahal hahaha

Thank you in advance guys!

Ok ganito pre.

GoPro -

pros: small, can be put anywhere
cons: battery life, fixed focal length

Ok lang if youre choosing this. Madami na din available after market upgrades na pwede mo magamit to enhance your creativity.

DSLR -

Pros: wide lens selection, full control of settings
Cons: bulky, battery life, cannot be used if youre the rugged type of shooter, hindi waterproof

If you pair this with a fast lens(lens with wide apertures), you can achieve good bokeh on your vids for added effect.

Not sure if the color range is better or the same with GoPro. Also, try to compare the iso ranges of the two.

It wouldnt end with the purchase of the units alone btw. Bibili ka ng spare batteries, stabilizers, mic at iba pang gamit na kakailanganin mo for your videos.

Uy paps Marzi thank you!

Gusto ko nga sana GoPro kasi mas handy and portable dalhin lalo na sa pag travel kaso ang worry ko is baka limited lang yung kaya ni GoPro and baka hindi ko mapractice or mapag aralan yung mga cinematic shots na balak ko. Or yung post editing talaga nag dadala nung cinematic shots na ganun?

Ang gusto ko naman sa DSLR eh is parang maganda yung learning curve niya, kung gusto ko matuto talaga ng mga settings then I think ito yung best. Anyway, may suggestions ka bang entry-level models na DSLR? yung may flip screen sana and ext mic input hehe

its all about post processing.

sample: a video i shot back in 2014 when i took my daughter to bora. i consider this a milestone for her dahil first time mag enjoy sa dagat at unlimited walking practice.

shot entirely with a beat up Samsung PL170 digicam i bought back in 2009. the shutter mechanism is broken so di na ko maka take ng pics. i only took 10sec clips tapos tagpi tagpi ko na lang in post.

another sample: taken in bohol

shot with a borrowed Pentax KS2 entry level slr. again, short clips. pero habang tumatagal, medyo nabubuo na sa isip ko yung kailangan kong mga kuha.

you'll have to forgive me if i used unlicensed songs on these videos. sila talaga yung naisip ko ilagay sa simula pa lang. i do not have enough knowledge in color grading, transitioning, etc pero kung nabigyan ako ng enough time para i-research, maybe i would have applied some on my works. all i know is i have a story to tell. pansinin mo din na pangit ako mag angle, shaky hands at paling paling yung orientation ng scenes. i shot entirely handheld with no image stabilization activated on cams.

pwede ka sa GoPro mo pero max mo yung budget to 15k para sa pagbili ng add ons. yan tapos work out all its kinks. eventually, maiintindihan mo yung mga totoong kailangan mo which will lead to purchasing a better unit.

my POV, you need both. apples vs oranges kasi eh. depende sa gagawin mong viodeos kung ano uunahin mo, but one cannot fully sub for the other.

i will help you decide on GoPro:

may lens add on ang GoPro to enable zoom and other effects. at mas mura ang stabilizer ng GoPro haha 2.5k yung pinakamurang nakita ko na portable din.

another thing that you can do with a GoPro na hindi mo magagawa sa dslr: pwede mo sya ibato hahaha. rather than use a monopod to raise the camera, yung GoPro ibato mo sa ere to capture unique perspectives.

What I liked about it is the image quality but ang pinaka nagustuhan ko is yung Dual Pixel Auto Focus. I'm into vlogging kasi ngayon kaya medyo focused ako sa video. M6 also has external microphone input, X-A3 doesn't.

Saan niyo ba gagamitin? more on vids or stills?

Kung for pics lang hmmm.. di ako masyado maalam sa pics pero baka overkill si M6, if hindi naman serious photography siguro? Hahaha di ko talaga alam bro. Paps Marzi pasok! hahaha

Pero kung nothing serious and kung gusto lang talaga makakuha ng decent pictures, there are cheaper models sa Canon Mirrorless line. Yung M3 you can get for around 20-25k brand new basta hindi sa mall. And M10 pwedeng pwede makakuha below 20k brand new.

Yung Canon M3 is a great camera na din, halos same specs kay m6.

Canon M10 naman is yung cheapest mirrorless ng Canon ngayon.

okay naman yung dalawang choices mo. but since ako magcocomment, canon na hehehe.

ngayon kung yung baby nyo lagi kukunan - you can buy an adaptor(EOS-EOS M) tapos bili ka ng 50mm 1.8 stm. its a very decent prime lens. im upgrading gears now pero di ko iiwan yung 50mm stm ko. if you want an all-rounder though, you can buy a M3 with EOS M 16-45mm kit lens(madalas naman bundled na to sa canon mirrorless). you can take shots of landscapes, portraits, group photos, basically everything with this lens. then you when feel the itch to add, dun mo score yung adapter at 50mm 1.8 stm.

paps kung video ang aim mo I suggest you go ahead with the high-end GoPro variants.. isa sa reason? very handy

syempre ibang iba ang quality kumpara sa mirrorless or smartphone pero you always get a chance to shoot anything anytime.
