Metal Fatigue sa Cymbals
« on: September 22, 2006, 07:19:23 PM »
Greetings!

Nawawala overtones, kaya nagiging swabe. Kaya tingnan mo ang daming old K collectors.

Hindi ko alam ang sa A.

The really nice cymbals (rides, in particular) are like fine wine.  They get better with age.  Their sound tends to mellow down and smooth out as it ages.

Hence, the vintage K's and those authentic hand-hammered Turkish-made rides are sought-after by collectors and enthusiasts.

 Thanks to all the replies!

By the way, do splashes and crashes tend to suck after a long use and abuse? (assuming they're not ride or Ks)
....so what about those second-hand stuffs out in the market?

Thanks again!

Regarding crashes and splashes...  These cymbals are meant to be played as accents.  Normally, we play those with greater force, comparing to ride cymbals.  It's not that they suck hehe, but I guess they're not meant to last for a lifetime; not unless one plays those cymbals with a very delicate and feathery touch.

^^^^^^^^^^So I guess drummers should be cautious when buying second-hand crashes and splashes!?!

Thanks Anthony!

buhayin ko lang tong thread. Any views on aged cymbals?

Yung mga K's and other jazz cymbals are meant to be aged. Mas swabe kasi mas warm and dry sounding sila. More suitable for jazz.

Yung mga A's naman, they're meant to be bright. so clean regularly. hehehehe.

Parang ganito lang yan. yung K's are like wine. kelangan patandain. yung A's naman and other bright sounding pies, are like beer. wala nang kwenta pag hindi na malamig. kaya palamigin ulet. ayun lang naman...

Opinion niyo?
beer and whiskey is very risky... :D:D:D

The molecular structure of metal changes a bit over time(hahaha, Bullcrap talk)
I don't know the exact term pero un ung ngyayari.
Its only true for cast cymbals. For sheet cymbals the sound stays consistent(the dirt and shin of the cymbals affect the sound, once you clean it babalik ung tunog)
Cast cymbals' sound changes through time.

Now ung "maganda na tunog". Its relative bro. depende sa definition mo ng "maganda"
As far a I'm concerned, Mas gumaganda ung tunog pag masmatagal. Sumasarap ung tunog, Parang wine. Or parang pagkakaibigan. LOL to the second one.
Hahaha. Hope this helps

Try Cleaning your cymbals giving them back their shinny finish. You'll hear a big sound difference, maybe thats the sound your after.

Hirap mag-open up. 'Di kaya dapat parang A Customs din ang Z's? Glassy and dapat malinis palagi?

Actually, I agree on the New Beats on this. Sobra bright kasi nung akin (for me, a) kaya hinahayaan kong tulungan ako ng patina na magmellow ang high and mid frequencies. Sobrang cutting siya noon. Ngayon, medyo may toned-down effect nga.
