RandyMarsh's DIY Pedal Mods (Two New Pedals In the Works)
« on: November 16, 2008, 04:17:33 PM »
Hehehe.

Page 1 - SD-1 mod
Page 2 - CS-3 mod
Page 3 - GE-7 mod
Page 4 - Proco rat Clone - The Splat Rat
Page 5 - Ibanez TS808 Clone - El Grapadura
Page 6 - Marshall Bluesbreaker Clone -"YBMB"
Page 7 - Duncan Coffee Distortion
Page 7 - Zendrive Clone ni Aling Minda
Page 8 - Vox V847 Wah Mods

Page 9 - Boss XT-2 Xtortion Mods
Page 10 - Boss MT-2 Metal Zone Mods
Page 11 - How to Mod Pedals
Page 11 - Boss CE-5 Wet/Vibrato Mod

I'm not planning to turn this into a business anytime soon. :-D

Ang maganda pa dito, by swapping components around pwede mo i-customize yung pedal to sound just the way you like it.

Bill of Materials

1 x Boss SD-1 - poor SD one, fresh from the store ni-reyp na agad  :-D
3 x 0.1µF capacitor
2 x 1µF capacitor
1 x 620k resistor
1 x 2k2 resistor
1 x Burr Brown OPA2134PA IC
1 x IC socket

Capacitors and Resistors

Kinausap ko yung nasa electronics shop at sabi niya mas ok for audio applications ang metal film capacitors and resistors.

Instructions

Replace C2, C3, and C8 to 0.1µF
Replace C7 and C10 to 1µF
Replace R2 to 620K
Replace R6 to a 2K2
Replace U1 to Burr Brown OPA2134PA + IC socket

sound clip!

0:00 - 0:07 - clean amp (lc15r)
0:07 - 0:27 - clean amp + modded sd-1 all knob 12 o' clock
0:27 - 0:38 - overdriven amp (lc15)
0:38 - 1:17 - overdriven amp + modded sd-1 all knob 12 o' clock

Cost
1 brand new sd-1 - $99.00
caps + resistors  - $10.00
OPA2134PA IC - $8.00

Total - $117.00 (Php 3600)

enjoy :D

Got myself a new drill and a few germanium diodes.

Final modifications to the SD-1

Got myself some Texas Instruments RC4558P chips. Time to test the "stacked" opt amp mod on my SD-1.

After swapping capacitors and resistors, I'm very happy with the outcome.

Next Project .... Boss DS-1 and Boss CS-3 mods

nice clips sir. okay yan opa2134pa, transparent and low noise, chip is not that fast, so no problem running it with 9v. best yan kung gagamitin sa mga compressors and other clean pedals, although you have to make an adapter for it if you 'll fit it cs-2, cs-3. next up the 2134 is opa2132 and opa2107. theyre quite expensive, and we use 'em more on driving audiophile headphone amps or cd players because of its transparency and presence .

Natapos din sa wakas :D

Bill of Materials
Resistors (metal film type preferred)
1 x 470 ohms
1 x 100 ohms

Capacitors (metal film non-polar, poly or mylar type prefered)
2 x 0.47uF
4 x 1uF
1 x 2.2uF
1 x 47uF (Tantalum type)

Wires - just in case hindi magkasya yung cap sa PCB, especially for the 2.2uF capacitor.

ICs (optional)
Burr Brown OPA2134PA
PCB bread board
1 x 8 pin socket (4 per side)
1 x 8 pin socket (8 inline)

Instructions
Replace R5 to 470ohms
Replace R36 to 100ohms
Replace C1 and C2 to .47uF
Replace C4, C6, C17 and C14 to 1uF
Replace C13 to 2.2uF or (1.47uf, 1 x 1uF and .47uF in parralel, kung ayaw nyo na ma-bass)
Replace C3 to 47uF (tantalum)

Optional : Op Amp upgrade ala Monte Allum
2 x 4 pins to 1 x 8 pin converter.

Remove IC2 (NJM4558) and replace with 8 inline IC socket.

Cut a square 10 x 10 hole sa pcb bread board.

Final Product

Sound Clip!!
0:00-0:07 - guitar and amp
0:07-1:17 - CS 3 engaged all knobs set to 1 o' clock (compressor mode).
1:17-2:23 - CS 3 engaged, attack at min level, sustain at max level (limiter mode)

enjoy :D

cool! yup 1/4 watt lang yung mga resistor. yung opa2134pa gawa ng burr brown. di ko alam kung may ibang manufacturer ng same chip, kung walang opa2134 hanap ka nalang ng ti4558 or isa pang jrc4558 then perform the stacked op amp mod :) you can also add a switch and wire an LED in series sa D5, it will boost the volume a little bit and add more clarity to the sound.

good luck bro. let us know kung magustuhan mo yung tunog after ng modification :)
