mga pare, educate me naman on the differences/effects of the tuners/machine heads na ginagamit sa Strat. to be honest, i'm really not very particular sa tuners; basta it can hold strings in tune, ayos na for me. usual kong nakikita kasi yung Schaller, Gotoh, Kluson and yung vintage Fender. anu-ano yung differences, pros and cons, etc. ng isa't isa? magandang discussion to since madaming Strat users dito with different setups :)

pare sa totoo lang, hindi ko alam, hehe. i think based on model and history lang kaya nagkaiba-iba ng tuners, hehe.

yung kluson kasi ginamit nila sa 50's and 60's strats. yung gotoh or "modern" tuners, sa mga modern na strats na, like yung standard strat. di ko lang alam yung schaller kung san sha, hehe.

ano kaya kung may waverly tuners for strat? hehe yung butterbean tuners, open back, hehe. masaya siguro tingnan yun.

Gotoh makes a huge variety of tuner designs besides the oval and Schaller-style, like the locking Kluson-style tuners:

Kaso iba yung suksukan nung strings eh. That adds appeal to me. :)

Pero syempre, you can't go wrong with Gotohs, can you? Sa lahat ata nang naging gitara ko isa lang ang may Gotoh. Wala naman akong naging problema. :D

I have this Fender Floyd Rose Squier Series neck attached to a Mexican standard body. It is intonated and is always tuned right in the higher positions (near the headstock) But when I play the higher registers, (near the bridge) I find the tuning lowered so I have to bend it slightly when I play. This is very evident when playing Satriani's "Always with you, always with me" (tama ba ung title? heheh) when the verse is played an octave higher after the first chorus. I wonder if my strat's frets are not placed in the proper positions. I noticed this when I got another Strat that plays perfect. I think it couldnt be the setup because I setup my guitars and I have not experienced this problem in other guitars.

What could be the solution? Thanks for readin'
 Dito ko daw ipost!

Hey Its not the intonation?...

sounds like an intonation problem to me. although once may kakilala ako nagka problemang ganyan- di matono sa higher frets kahit mukhang perfectly intonated (di nga lang strat ang gitara nya) at ang nadiskubre eh may problema sa nut.  ayun inadjust ang taas ng nut natono naman. di ko nga ma gets eh.

nyek, bakit iba yung suksukan ng strings sa gotoh kluson type? eh yung habol ko nga sa kluson na tuners yung string hole sa split top design nya. para at least pwede mo salpak dun yung dulo ng string. problema ko kasi sa mga gitara ko eh they tend to fray the inside of the gigbag, hehe. kahit may added protection na yung gigbag nafe-fray parin, hehe. at least sa kluson, kung nakapasok yung end nung guitar string, no problem, hehe.

ok, here are my strats, hehe.

the one on the left is a "fender" strat, MIJ, 2pc ash body, you've heard this before yada yada yada...

the one on the right is my new GAS result, a blackie fender strat (squier series) MIM, poplar body, maple neck, all stock. it has a warmer tone than its ash brother, hehe.

now time to look for a set of cheap good replacement pickups, hehe.

o kayo naman!

yuf, it's an MIM squier series fender strat. it's basically the same standard MIM strat except for the cheaper hardware. yung standard MIM strats kasi have a classic bridge, schaller tuners and alnico pickups, yung squier series na MIM naman have a cheaper bridge, cheaper "diamond back" tuners and ceramic pickups. pero basically the woods used are the same. i think mine's poplar. maputi sha eh, kahit black... huh? hehe. de i removed the neck to check out a crack i found in the body, luckily it was only a finish crack, hehe. pero the wood is very light colored, and medyo on the heavy side.

yup, mismo.

re: your inquiry on the quality of makes, i think...

1. MIA, CIJ (crafted in japan models are higher quality than MIJ)
2. with MIJ as a close second
3. MIM is a close third, sometimes second
4. MIK (with the exception of the protone series, which for me, ranks # 2 or 3)
5. CIC, MIC crafted in china are the most entry-level strats.

well, para sa akin, ibig lang sabihin ng CIJ e they were built during the late 1990's (starting from 1997, I think). i've seen no particular reason for them to be superior to the older MIJ's, aside from them being in better condition for the most part (kasi mas bago nga).

like yung mga modern na 50's & 60's reissue na binebenta sa ishibashi, alder na sila. pero they also have yung lower end basswood models. pero, ika nga, siguro depende din sa model. yung sabi ko lang jan eh according to what i know, hehe. and that is not much, hehe.

hmmm may nakita nako na CIJ na basswood eh. mines a 50's reissue MIJ pero di sya basswood. It's a maple(?) body with alder wings. so i guess pareho lang sila quality.  may economy version lang  sila talaga. same with your MIM- sa hardware lang ata. like unstamped saddles ceramic pups and smaller pots. :D

and for those of us who'll eventually upgrade their pickups, pots, etc.
the economy version is probably a bettr choice.

hope this helps
