Haha... aalala mo pala yung kwento ko un, BB ha! Buoin ko na nga ung kwento...
It was my first time going to his place and dealing w/ him in person. I was there to sell a bunch of stuff, mostly pedals and pickups. When he asked about the price of one of the pickups, and I can't remember the price, I opened my Treo to check. Ganito dialog namin:
Tom:
What are you doing? What are you doing? Don't text -- we are talking and doing business here. Joric:
What??! We ARE talking and doing business. But I need to check the price of the item and it's in my phone. I need to do this if you wanna continue talking and do business. (*After saying this, kumulo na rin dugo ko and I really showed it in my face, body language, and attitude.*)
Tom:
I don't let anyone text in my house.Joric:
Well do you want to know the price or not? I can only tell you by accessing my phone. Otherwise, I can't sell you the thing. At this point, Tom lets it pass and allows me to do my thing on my phone. I then give him the price and he starts haggling. After a few minutes I realize he's a seasoned haggler and it's likely I won't get my desired price.
Joric:
So what's your final offer? (This was for a package deal on a couple of pedals)
Tom: *States his price... Which doesn't meet mine*
Joric:
Ok, thanks anyway. I then pack up my stuff to leave. While going out the door he makes one final offer on one pedal that really interests him. It met my last price for that pedal and so I sold it to him.
I've been back there one other time but it was much smoother and he was much more accommodating and friendly. Maybe also because we also bumped into each other at Arie's bday party where he was dancing like, well, a white guy!
.
I think ang key with Tom and others of his ilk is to remember this:
1. Walang manloloko kung di magpapalok (but this is easier said than done if you're not streetwise)
2. Maintain your self-respect as a person and as a Filipino. You know your rights, even if you are a house guest.
3. You don't HAVE TO buy/sell at a disadvantage. Don't sell or buy and then complain that you got duped. That's crying over milk you spilled yourself.
