tried the Vypyr 75W side by side with the stock Laney Cub 12R... well, on retail price they are almost the same but unfortunately the Vypyr wins on the fun factor!
to clarify, the multiple stompbox/pedal effects (technically 2 can be simultaneous at a time along with a delay and a reverb) plus the amp models in the Vypyr are just amazing to listen to. I like the 6505 amp model the most -- makes me wanna play all day if I turn the OD mode with treble up all the way, and the gain, mids, and lows at roughly 12 o clock. just enough squeal, punch, feedback, crunch, and presence to my ears...
in comparison, the Cub 12R has a distinctive tone of it's own, and at full gain using the 15W output, I could really get classical rock tones. but on the aspect of analog vs digital tone, my ears can't discern a huge difference. the Vypyr actually sounds more full bodied and raw compared to the Cub, and not the other way around...
anyway, I've had the Vypyr for a longer time than the Cub so I might have grown accustomed to the former's sound. actually the Cub actually sounds great. I wouldn't mind if I had it as my sole amp. I was just surprised that a modelling amp like the Vypyr could sound this good...
