what are you recording?

1st  - check your cables (PL, XLR, RCA). usually defective cables can cause this
2nd - plug the power cable of your m-audio and pc sa AVR or UPS

         - yan din naging problem ng kaibigan ko before cause hindi grounded  yung kuryente nila.

try yo check din yung PSU ng cpu mo if its a desktop pc. karaniwan pag generic PSU lang nag cacause din ng noise sa recording eh

to cut buzzes and hums make sure that your recording interface is not located close to anything with a CRT (cathode ray tube) like a TV or an old, improperly shielded PC monitor; you have fluorescent light bulbs going on that are buzzing; you are plugged into an improperly grounded wall outlet. Properly ground your source of recording like the amp, a turntable (for sampling) or keyboards by situating it far away from other electronic devices until the hum or buzzing noticeably subsides. You can also use some tin foil (seriously) to cloak your firewire device as a Faraday cage to temporarily shield it from EM fields close by if moving the device is gonna be hard for you.

Changing to an LCD screen could be one of the biggest noise reduction steps you could take. If that is impossible for now, just turn off the monitor while tracking.

to add to above comments:

are you recording guitar?  if you are, single coils easily pick up noise by its very nature.  shield mo lang yun electronics inside.  easier to record humbuckers though.

As a quickfix, try turning approx. 90 degrees in your present position (in some cases, this works). Won't work if you really have a grounding issue or some other EMI/RFI going on.
