Cymbals get better with age. The older it gets, the sweeter it sounds. Post those sweet cymbals here. Maybe those that are from the 70's or earlier are qualified as well as some early 80's cymbals like the pre-serial Zildjians.
Here's the oldest cymbal from my collection. A Paiste 2002 Black label 22" Ride from the 70's.
From its serial number, its manufactured in 1978. Ala John Bonham Ride! But this is its smaller cousin, John uses a 24" ride.
I got this ride from a friend who sold it to me. It has a small keyhole (about 1mm) so i repaired it by putting an eyelet on the hole. This is considered a Classic Rock Ride sound. I has a nice clear ping with a dark underlying wash that supports it. The bell is a bit small for a typical 22" ride but it sounds quite solid and loud and a good tone from it. For a 22" cymbal, it is also crashable to a certain degree, considering its size, you need a much greater force to have it moving. Through age, it posses a warm clear tone, transparent and really sweet sounding, free of unwanted ringing and weird overtones. It feels good and is very versatile. It weighs 2900 grams.
How about you guys? Post your sweet sounding cymbals too!
