pcb etching 101
by kuyaneo

4. laquer thinnner / acetone(not on the pic) pang linis ng pcb.

5. copper clad board a.k.a pcb

6. ferric chloride. ito ginagamit ko since readily available na. you can also use HCL. siguraduhing naksara ng mabuti dahil pwedeng mangalawang ang mga metal objects na nasa paligid nito.

7. scotch brite / sandpaper.

8. etching tray. make sure na plastic siya.

9. iron

steps:

do learn how to make PCBs. its quite easy once you get the hang of it...looks cool too...later on you can etch other stuff like your initials and stuff para personalized talaga...hehe

TS clone, i got sa tonepad...beware, there are a couple of hard to get parts I dunno kung pwede ng substitutes (dalawang caps). jrc4558s you can get sa Deeco.

another note: get proper tools!!! It'll make your life easier. You will have to spend a bit. Reserve your patience for the actuall assembly and trouble shooting. So make your life easier during the preperation stage by getting proper tools, a mini drill, mini cutters, a proper soldering iron, etc.

alas! DIY pedals! they're very bitchy, you feel like crying when they dont work the first time.. and when you got it working, you are flabbergasting on yourself, then you mod it, then it doesnt work again and you feel like throwing it to the wall. im speaking from my experience ofcourse =]

im so lazy to start from scratch, thats why i usually buy a defective pedal , use it as a flatform or get its pcb. i plan to rehouse it, paint  etc etc. so i think thats more in line with modding. but if you guys need help in building your own effects from scratch, i may be of help , i have the diagrams for basic ODs, delays, mosfet booster, DIY true bypass looper, big muff copy, CE-2, DS-1, electric mistress EHX, wah pedal, tremolo, tube screamer, octaver, envelope filter etc. if i didnt mention the effect you want, just pm me, i'll find it for you here

from reading alot of DIY stuff over the net i beleive the easiest and maybe the most recommended peadl to start with is a looper or a switcher of some sort. i stand corrected.

pwede din since ang looper usually ay may switch at jacks lang. isa apng simpleng d.i.y build ay yung electra distortion. konti lang omponents at one knob lang siya kung tama pagkakaalala ko. maraming pwedeng gawing starting point. yung mga fuzz madadali lang gawin plus available parts dito sa atin. i recommend doing the big muff na tranny version

multi meter, tester. comes in analog or digital. yung little box with an analog/digital meter taht you see TV repair men poke around the circuitboard??

lets you check a variety of things, continuity (if wether a circuit id open or closed),resistance, AC/DC voltage or current. and a lot of other things that i dont understand na rin...hehe.

im no expert din naman when it comes to electronics. I just have a lot of those lonely nights alone with my PC and the internet...just think about it, rather than spend time on pron...mag research ka na lng about DIY EFX! (Dang! sobrang nerdy na nun ah...). well, research on DIY EFX while you wait for your video download on limewire to finish...hehe

ferric chloride.

sir, if your worrying about the colors of the wires...i think there's a lot you need to read up on..hehe
lets start with this...can you wire a strat, not because you know where the wires go, but you understand why they have to go there?? I think its important that you try to understand the schematics...not just building something by looking where wires go.

start from the basics...understand how volume knobs work, how tone knobs work (it isnt too different how they work on your guitar and on an efx pedal, uhhhm...i think,hehe.)...then move forward from there.

its great, may ganitong places we can go and ask...a few weeks ago i was just lurking around in the other DIY pedal thread...ngaun I just built my own and it works!!! :-D cooool!!!!

Nice work on the tutorial. I use press-n-peel iron-on toner transfer when I feel like etching. I want to try the photosensitive boards sometime. I usually just build on perf board because it is quicker for me and I don't always have time to etch. BTW, akala ko yung #4 ay gin. I was going to say that I prefer beer
