Is the album already out? Man the first one (Silent Alarm) was probably one of the best post punk revivalist album I've heard. galeng ng bandang ito.

i remember an article where they mentioned that they were listening heavily to tv on the radio while writing and recording the tracks on this album. and the influence obviously shows, hence the huge departure from the dance-punk vibe on their debut.

The energetic vibe of the first half somehow makes the second half feel unbalanced.  Most of the second half of the record seems...dragging.  It somehow feels like a race-car that runs out of gas on the last lap, petering out and giving up.

I think there should've been better track sequencing with regard to fast vs slow songs.

As for the Radiohead comparisons, I don't think I've ever heard Thom and the guys play with that kind of energy (especially if we're referring to Amnesiac and Kid A specifically, if anything those albums remind me of Aphex Twin's quieter side or Autechre).  If anything, more of the fast songs would go along the same output that The Rapture or Hot Chip have been churning, only more punky.  Yes, there are electronic drumbeats this time around, but for those who've heard the b-sides to their singles, this isn't a new thing.  Silent Alarm had more of Matt Tong's drumset going for the band and this new one marries what's been heard on Silent Alarm and the singles' b-sides.  I still miss more of Matt's energy though.

Still makes me wonder how this music will translate in a live setting.  I'll have to find out the next time they come to town.

^^ i like the live version of "hunting for witches" better. bootlegs have been floating around since last year, so i was kind of bummed out when i heard the studio version.

Favorite tracks:

Hunting For Witches < Most upbeat song ng album.
Waiting For the 7.18 < Best song of the album para sakin.
The Prayer < Rumored to be the first single off the album.
Kreuzberg
I Still Remember < Natutuwa ako dito. New Wave-ish.
Sunday < Naaalala ko latter part ng Silent Alarm dito.

Looks like I Still Remember may be the first song hitting the rock stations out here in the US.

Great music to start the year.
Pero mas feel ko yung spanking energy nung Silent Alarm especially with that kind of drumming wizardy courtesy of Matt Tong. Mala-octopus ang hampas.

he gave a rather oblique answer regarding that in this article:

Quote
from: http://observer.guardian.co.uk/magazine/story/0,,1982746,00.html

But A Weekend in the City is a record full of intriguing lyrics and scenarios. Two songs, 'I Still Remember' and 'Kreuzberg', seem to explicitly explore homosexuality. The former is about a crush between two schoolboys ('We left our trousers by the canal'). The latter is about gay promiscuity. So has Okereke decided to talk about his sexuality?

'I think I'm going to have to. With the first album I didn't think it was essential to the experience. I didn't want to have to talk about it in a tabloid way. It wasn't there in the songs, so why did people need to know? But yeah, there are songs on this record that do feel like they're about desire, longing. So yeah,' he concludes, 'I am gonna talk about that.'
