DIY Cab build #2 (2x12 Bandmaster style)

Okay. Last year I did a sembreak project which was a 1x12 cabinet. Thought it'd be a nice project to do with my spare time or whenever I'm bored with the stuff I regularly do.

Finished Cab#1 and now it's in the hands of a superb guitar god.  :mrgreen:






Now, summer is fast approaching.. I have three guitars.. one has no pickups.. one is out for a re-fret.. and the other one will be sold soon.. :facepalm:
Need something to keep me busy for the meantime.... I'd like to take building cabs to the next level.. 2x12 naman.. Hehe.. I'm planning to use it for my Fender DSR head.

Dimensions were based on a Fender Bandmaster 2x12 cabinet. However, I opted for a partially open back ala Avatar's Premier 212 open back cabs rather than a closed back cab like the original Bandmaster. I also ditched the thought of putting a divider on the middle of the cab as I fear it might sound boxy.

3/4" marine plywood was used for the sides and baffle
1/2" marine plywood was used for the back panel and front grill

**I think the vintage Fender cabs used plywood back then before later using particle boards**

After a few weeks of on and off wood working, here's the current progress of the cab.

Thank you bro. Boredom + wood + some tools + cab gas = cab build.  :-P

If the price is right, baka mag Eminence ako from them bro. Pag hindi, hanap ako ng ibang alternative na hindi kamahalan. Jensen MOD siguro.  :-)

Pati yung tolex at grill ala Fender? Parang yung sa Mather cabs. :)

I'm suddenly interested in cabs all of a sudden. I hear that vibro champs sound huge through them. :D

Di ko pa sure bro. Ginaya ko lang talaga yung design ng Fender. Gaynan kasi yun diba? Jan nakakabit yung "Fender".

Yung tolex, hindi parang Fender. Hahanap ako ng medyo brown na boutique ang itsura. Yung grill, hahanap pa rin. :)

May external speaker output ba yung VC mo Jan?

Pwede siya isaksak sa ext cab yata via the speaker out sa likod. Pero RCA jack siya so bibili lang ng rca to 1/4 na plug.

4 ohm ang recommended (although 3.2 talaga ata siya, not sure). So pwedeng 2x10/12 na tig 8 ohm tas wired in parrallel (tama ba?). haha better for me yun, kaysa palitan yung stock speaker.

Ah RCA siya. Ok lang yan. Plugs lang pinagkaiba niyan. Parehong positive at negative lang din naman ang terminals diyan.

sir chino pwede bang gayahin to?weheheh....nakabili ako last year ng 2x12" na speaker dito rin sa classifieds pero hanggang ngayon wala pang cab...baka pwede mo akong mabigyan kahit measurements lang....weheheh..thanks for sharing na rin...nagkaroon ako ng idea...

Sure sir. Bilang based din naman ang dimensions ko sa Fender Bandmaster 2x12, to po dimensions ko sa cab:

Length: 31 3/4"
Width: 12"
Height: 20 3/4"

May head na ako sir. Fender DSR.



Actually may 2x12 na rin akong gamit sa kanya ngayon.


Compact kasi yung cab niya ngayon para halos parehas sa kabuuang length nung head at mas portable. Eh naisipan ko lang din po na gumawa ng baong 2x12 na ayon sa specs/dimensions ng Bandmaster cab. Dispatch ko na lang yung cab na gamit ko ngayon after nitong 2x12 project ko.   :-)

Updates for today:
Done rounding off the edges then fine sanding..
Applied a Boysen Plasolux Glazing Putty aka masilya on the whole cab para pag tinakpan ay walang baku-bako at mas maganda ang kapit ng contact cement..

Not yet fully decided. But for now, hinihintay ko yung Eminence sa Lyric. Pag ok ang price, I'll definitely get one na more British sounding at isang mas American sounding. Para may mix ako nung dalawa. Mukhang ok ang Eminence sa akin ngayon kasi ang taas ng wattage rating, sakto para sa amp ko.

Pag di kaya ang Eminence, I'll might just get a pair of Jenen MOD12-70 speakers.  :-)
