Kailan na jam? Sama ako, kahit kibitzer lang. I want to learn although sure akong mataas ang skill level to play jazz fusion. So far alien sa akin yung mga names ng musicians except for Chick and Vinnie. Yung lower form nya na jazz-rock typical of Steely Dan e mas familiar sa akin. Would you know if Brother to Brother ni Gino Vanelli can be considered as jazz fusion?

Ok guys since I don't have a regular group right now and di pa din ako makapag-organize ng isang matinong grupo para maka-alis uli ng 'pinas....I might just be spending time muna sa Jam sessions.

Set tayo ng jam may it be blues sa start then eventually let's explore the world of standards then traditional eventually leading us to the realms of the contemporary...bop etc, moving on to the world of fusion...

Bahala na pero let's make this jam educational for everyone...walang lagayan kumbaga  (dami ko kasi nawitness na mga jam sessions na puro lagayan ang nangyayari) I'll bring some fakebooks to guide our way pero let's hope na merong isang pwedeng bumasa ng theme or may kabisado nang theme ng kung anomang piece. I'll try to invite some friends na pwede natin makajam to start the fire 8)

But first let's look for a venue where we can do this gathering...any suggestions?  :?:

ok din sinabi ni boyet re:lagayan..i think ung lagayan para lang sa mga bata na hot na hot ipakita ang galing niya..sa jam,pinag-uusapan ang sarap ng tugtugan o sarap ng "moment" at sarap ng bwat notang kinakalabit mo na pinaparamdam mo sa ka-jam mo o sa audience--it's communication..at hindi kung anong malupit na scale ang ginamit mo o kung gaano kalupit ang ginawa mong techniq..it's about the moment, how we are going to react or converse spontaneously and musically..

by the way brothers, maiba ako..sino ba mga favorite niyong fusion groups or jazz artists??

heard Niacin? astig din! ibang klaseng fusion din..they fused intense rock&blues, very aggressive and their music involves speed din grabe!!!

it is Billy Sheehan's project band with John Novello on B3 and Dennis Chambers on drums..3 piece pero ang lupet!

check out their latest album..sorry i forgot the title pero ang galing talaga..ibang klaseng fusion din na may progressive-rock flavor.surf the net for Niacin band.

suggestion lang: why not create a mailing list para mas-organized yung jamming and at the same time forge a group na may regular members para mas maging progressive? suggestion lang, but i dont want to be the initiator, im not the leader type! personal infos and stuff para makapag-decide ng convenient place. not-so-strictly jazz pero ganun ang orientation.
suggestion lang...

astig talaga ang Mahavishnu Orchestra! they've been regarded as the pioneer of progressive jazz-rock music according to some enthusiasts.

by the way heard John Mclaughlin's 1997 solo album The Heart of Things with Dennis Chambers,Matthew Garrison,Gary Thomas&Jim Beard?..ok din!great dynamics and quality! age doesnt matter talaga for a master like John Mclaughlin.

Mahusay din si John Tropea ang gitarista ni Eumir Deodato. Nag perform sila sa Manila noong mga 1970s, Folk Arts Theater yata. Sikat na sikat sila dito noon... Suggested listening: Skyscrapers, Super Strut, Rhapsody in Blue, Moonlight Serenade, Also Sprach Zarathustra, Baubles Bangles and Beads, Carly and Carole, Speak Low, Adam's Hotel, etc. Ang hahaba ng mga iba diyan kasi matagal ang improvisation nila!

I started listening to jazz fusion during the 70s but I'm not very familiar with 90s and later jazz fusion anymore. So the jazz fusion musicians I like are from 70s to 80s only such as

    Stanley Clarke
    Eddie Gomez
    Ron Carter
    Jaco Pastorius
    Jack Bruce
    John Patitucci

    John McLaughlin

    Allan Holdsworth
    Frank Gambale
    Pat Metheny
    Larry Carlton
    Frank Zappa
    Jan Akkerman
    Jeff Beck
    Carlos Santana

    Jean-Luc Ponty
    Jerry Goodman
    Michael Urbaniak
