i was in Bonifacio High Street last Saturday during Earth Hour and i decided to pay a visit to the bike shops there just to look around and ask the sales people for a good beginner MTB.

i went to Biker King (not sure if i got the name right) first but i didn't like the service too much because the salesgirl i spoke with just pointed me to the cheapest MTB they had.  i'm sure she assumed cheapest = beginner bike.  the bike was priced at 30k.

i went to R.O.X. because i remembered seeing a MTB in their display and learned that their bikes are in the 3rd floor.  so i asked the same question to the salesman i spoke to and first thing he asked me was my height and the intended use i had for the bike.  from there i felt that he knew what he was talking about so i let him guide me to his suggested bikes. he was patient enough to answer each question i had and he discussed the specs pretty well.

the best option he gave me was priced at 27k and had the ff. specs (based on what i remember)
- extra small bike (i'm 5'3")
- Giant aluminum frame
- Shimano drivetrain
- hydraulic brake system
- disk brake
- forgot how many gears but i think it had a 3 in one pedal and 9 in the other, so 27?

what do you guys think?  i'm hoping i can get something with the same specs but significantly lower price in Cartimar.  :-)

@ arpeggiosfromheaven:

thanks ser! poser bikers lang! ahihihihi

@ maxi_musikero:
ok yung mga built bikes dyan sa The Fort..
i have just few question for you ser.
1. How much is your budget range for you bike?
2. What kind of rides do you want? village, urban, trails, etc?
3. Is this just a hobby or a sport, etc. (kase ser hindi po biro yung pera na pambibili ng bike, let's make the most out of it parang mga gitara natin )
Im sure naman na ma eenjoy mo yung bike either na cheap bike siya or a high end bike...
ang importante enjoy ka...

goodluck to you bike hunting. :-D

thanks bro!  to answer your questions:

1.  15k budget.  i think i can go as high as 20k but no more.
2.  i want it to be pretty much all-around but for sure hindi ko muna gagamitin sa difficult trails.
3.  more of a hobby bro, nothing competitive.

thanks for the references but i'm kinda skeptical sa sulit.  plus the fact that's double my budget.

is Giant a good brand for bike frame?  based on your inputs, a getting a good quality frame should be the starting point.  i saw other brands too but hindi kasi ako familiar sa "hierarchy" ng brands sa bikes eh.

Giant is one of the biggest manufacturers of anything related to bikes. I mean they are freaking HUGE! My bike is a giant. Not the best brand, but they make very good bikes.
