Fuzz Freaks arise!
« on: April 21, 2009, 09:32:44 AM »
share ko lang. first time kong maka-try ng Fuzz mga 4 years ago, and nung time na yun parang di ko na-type-an, and i was more interested in ultra-compressed, high gain sounds than a blatty fuzz (if i had an MT-2 then, i would have been happy ). i am sure there was something about fuzzes that i like, but i can not identify what it was during that time.

the unit actually was a crappy Zoom 707ii i think, probably the reason why i disliked it, as it sounded rather fake. and yes, you guessed it, i was using more ultra-compressed, noisy high gain pedals nung mga sumunod na pagkakataon.

lately i tried building some fuzz circuits, and after two successful projects, i am starting to discover how wonderful these circuits are (again). the clean-up is nice, and the circuit reacts well to the guitar's pot. amazing!
(on a side note: the RF interference can get annoying sometimes, so be sure to set the minimum volume on your Boss pedal as well :D)

i have an NPN fuzz face and a PNP tonebender MK2 (negative ground), and these two differ greatly, just right for my needs. not of topnotch craftmanship, but delivers :D i know most of us are dirt addicts as well, and probably are into ODs and Dists more. just wanted to know who the fuzz freaks are in this forum.

fuzz freak/aficionados, arise!

Been through a bunch of fuzzes starting from the Fuzz Face of a zoom GFX-5. Next came a reissue US Big Muff, then a Dunlop Jimi Hendrix Fuzz Face (yung itim), then an EHX Double Muff. Tapos ngayon, gumagamit ako ng older reissue US Big Muff (with the wooden box and old style knobs). I just wish there was a way to add mids without using an OD pedal before it. Might go for a Blackout Musket Fuzz next.

^ yun nga din impression ko with fuzzes i have. either it gets too trebley pag nagrollback ng volum pot/pedal, or too bassy when gain knob is cranked.

the FF for me has more bass and quite scooped but cleans up nicely, something i cannot do with my Tonebender - just plain raw power!

will try an NPN/PNP TB MK2 build in one enclosure next time. for teH BroOtaLz.!

just kidding. i want them for their dramatic clean up. when i was new to pedals i kept reading this thing about "clean up" when you roll back your volume pot. i thought this just cuts your volume. hindi pala. it' more than taht. it's magic.

lolz... very true... look at me now... lolz...

anyway, i've had very limited experience with fuzz... i was able to try out the fuzzface and some local custom fuzz pedals... so far, i've fallen for the catalinbread v8 fuzz... pretty versatile for its size... it has found a place on my board...

-zvex fuzzfactory
-fromunda big cheese clone (i miss this one)
-zoom ultrafuzz (is with a friend at the moment)
-lovepedal fuzz50 (on a good day it rocks, siguro mas malupit na tunog ngayon dahil palit na ako ng pick-ups sa GLP.
-skreddy zero

Only 3 remain.

some fuzzes I still have with me:
Zoom UF01

78 Big Muff
Barge Concepts BP-1
SIB Nick Nitro
MXR Blue box - so under rated.
Hendrix Fuzz face (red now rehoused, yeah, dual germanium )
4ms Atoner - incoming in three weeks

Here's what was bought and sold (regret)
Fender Blender
Skreddy Mayo
Skreddy Pink Flesh

Hendrix JH-1 - black.

Here's a list of what I want next:
Blackout effectors Dual Fuzz
Blackout Effectors Musket Fuzz
Devi Ever Rocket
Devi Ever Shoe Gazer
Prescription Electronics Experience fuzz
4ms Noise Swash

Old Marshall Supa Fuzz
Beast Egg Fuzz
DIY Triangle Muff by Montgomery Appliances
There's around 20 more. I forgot the rest.

i thought before i was into dists. then OD (amp OD-like pedals). even amp sims (GDI). chet! fuzz lang pala would give me a fat hard-on!

no one has really done it here sa pinas. consistently making fuzz pedals. would love to try some local builds. if you're into it, here's a tip. make it a bit modern sounding. think triangle muff with bottom end balls.

very. but the demo was biased IMHO. botik lahat eh. i wonder how it would sound on a genesis guitar?  :-D

What gear was used? It sounds like where the fuzz50 started off but more.

His echobaby on the chain....maybe?

How biased was it from your point of view as im out of the loop from effects for quite awhile?

I based it on the other demos. There's probably an echobaby in the end. Like the Pickle vibe. Cables were GL's. Amp was a tweed combo probably a Fender. Guitar I am not sure. I am wondering how it would sound if the gear used were different. Cheaper gear like an MIK or MIC guitar, and SS amp or even a china made amp. Pretty subjective. The video helped sure, but the best way to find out if it really rocks my socks off is to get one. Soon. Lulz.
