Bird, Trane, Dizzy, Wayne, Keith, Oscar, Benson, Martino, Tristano, Tal, Brad.

Translation:
Charlie Parker, John Coltrane, Dizzy Gillespie, Wayne Shorter, Keith Jarrett, Oscar Peterson, George Benson, Pat Martino, Lennie Tristano, Tal Farlow, Brad Mehldau.

The list could go on for many, many pages.

But this list is a good start.

Art Blakey or Max Roach. For some reason, drummer-led groups have fast songs.

Um... except maybe Brian Blade :D

And records with Wynton Marsallis are also pretty interesting "fast" jazz.

a common misconception about improvising is the phrase, 'play what you hear' or 'play by ear'. Many players say they do this, leading students to think that they simply make music up on the spot but the case is that what they are really doing is 'playing what they already know'.

Improvising is the spontaneous performance of ideas that come to you in th midst of soloing.
