Dapat tamang timpla.  Huwag mag peak sa DAW (recording software) mo.  Maski half mo lang tapos timplahin mo from your sound source naman.

Others record ng tondo yung sound source like guitars and keyboards.

Distortion kasi has the tendency to act like a resonant filter at certain settings, and in small amounts, it can make a vocal more present and forward plus it adds an edge. Obviously you can't apply this in all cases, but the thread in question wanted upfront vocals. Parallel compression is putting a compressor in an aux bus and feeding it 100% send from the vocal track. By mixing the aux return a little bit with the regular vocal track, you can come up with really strong vocal tracks.

Parallel compression comes from the fact that you have 2 compressors working in parallel in the vocal track; the main one to tame dynamics, while the one in the aux bus compresses the heck out of the signal. It's the judicious use of the aux bus that helps make a particular signal stand out. You can actually use parallel compression for anything, but it often helps vox and bass a lot more.

hmm.... Sir KitC, same track source ba to w/ different fx application? I read earlier from another site about parallel compression... Mas OK nga daw po yun! Applicable din po ba to sa mga instrument tracks like guitars & drums?

Yup. same track.

No one says you couldn't try it with drums and guitars, but the secret is judicious use and moderation. Don't use it on everything or you'll end up with a loud mess. Experimentation, however, is the key.

Question lang for guitar interface and recording.

for reference:

TIA  :-)

The RP155 qualifies as an audio interface according to the Digitech site. If the drivers also include asio, use that as much as possible for low latency. You can use any recording software; start with audacity or try Reaper if you want something capable of multitracking.

hello po mga sir..

medyo matagal ako nawala sa thread... thanks sir kit c sa mga advise mo dati about recording, nakapag-record na po kami (choir) using
this daw : behringer uca202 - behringer xenyx mixer - pc - cakewalk sonar - asio driver... medyo ok naman yung output and wala kaming naging problema sa latency...pero kailangan ko pa rin aralin how to put the right eq, reverb, etc..

sa ngayon, we're planning to buy m-audio fast track usb 2...
question po..??

1. 16 bit po a ito or 24 bit?

1. 16 bit po a ito or 24 bit?

24 bit. Just keep it internal to Sonar. This is better for processing headroom, but if you're concerned about large file sizes, you can go 16 bit without much worry. Just save files as 16 bit wav, but keep Sonar in 32 or 64 bit if your pc can handle it.

2. kailangan pa po ba ng ASIO driver for low latency?

Asio has proven to be very reliable for low latency recording for me, although nothing is stopping you from using WDM if you prefer it. As long as you can record with low latencies, you can use either. I just prefer asio because vst fx seem to behave better with it.

Stick with what you know... the rest will follow later. Sonar is more than capable for music production... I should know. As long as you generate wav files with logical start times, you can fly those into any PT setup.

It's ok, but not without it's faults. The secret is to learn how to live with them. As time goes by and if you save enough, you can always increase your mic cabinet as the need arises. For now, capitalize on the strengths of the C-1 and try to roll off the highs if it sounds too bright.

I can't give an unequivocal answer without testing either, but I think M-audio already has win7 drivers for their interfaces. Behringer is a little bit outdated with their driver releases.

Nais ko po sana i-out yung Sound from my mixer papunta sa DAW (Cubase 5)... though I get a sound from my PC papunta sa mixer... Ano po kayang problema? ASIO supported naman po yung interface... :-(

Parehas naman po connected yung TAPE IN/OUT ng mixer sa Soundblaster IN/OUT... Tulong po! :|

wala na po ako problema mag-mix kapag choir (acapella)... ano po ba ang tamang eq sa mixer before you record..? ty

Hi,

First up, know that radios have their own compressor just before it hits the transmitter so if you can hear levels decreasing, then you haven't had your opus mastered properly. My guess is that low frequencies are to blame, coupled with poor monitor speakers that do not reproduce the low end of the audio spectrum during the 'mastering stage'.

This is where a spectrum analyzer comes in handy. Look at the portions where all instruments come in. That way, you can identify the frequency thats probably causing the station compressor to kick in. My guess is its a low frequency that your monitors do not reproduce.

Do I need to create a separate bus for each mono track?

You can only record 2 channels at a time or a stereo recording of the entire kit. Best compromise is to either record the overheads as a stereo track, or kick drum mic and one overhead. No need for separate busses for the former while the latter configuration allows you to control the kick via a mono track. Unfortunately for the stereo track, the kick will be lacking any punch in that recording, but it can be used for jazz where emphasis on the kick isn't that great. By careful placement of the overheads, you may be able to capture a full spectrum of the entire set, but it will still be a compromise.
