don't use chemical like wd40. it will soften the insulation on the pickup wires.

31. Why do the magnets in my pickup rust?
A typical Alnico magnet used in the majority of guitar pickups consists of several different alloys. Aluminum, Nickel, Cobalt, Copper, Silicon, Titanium and Iron. With the presence of Iron, a magnet can rust due to moisture in a case, high humidity in the air and most likely the sweat coming from your hands. Moisture contacts the pole piece and can cause it to rust. Most companies do not plate the Alnico pole pieces in their pickups. Fender plates their Cunife magnet pole piece used in their guitar and bass humbuckers. Gibson plated the magnets on their rectangular adjustable Alnico Pickups, used on the 56 (neck position) Les Paul Custom . Nickel, Gold or Chrome plating helps reduce the oxidation (rust) unless the plating is worn off from extensive playing. Rusting of the poles is why many Vintage Pickups stop working. The rust continues into the bobbin where the coil is wound, breaks down the insulation until the copper magnet wire becomes exposed and shorts out then there's no reading in the coil To help prevent this in single coils it is best to keep your instrument's case dry especially in hot humid areas. Try to keep your guitar in cool areas (not in hot car trunks) so the case doesn't sweat. It's amazing how much moisture your case can absorb. Wipe down the strings and pickups after playing with a dry cloth. I've put my guitar case in a room with a dehumidifier to take the mosture out. Always keep your case closed when rehearsing. There are special potting processes that can help keep your pickup working longer. If you have specific questions you can write me. I'd be glad to help.

......calling the attention of Agent WD40!
sir wag daw gamitin yan sabi ni RANDYMARSH. :-)

-
metal polish
o kaya baking soda(dilute nyo sa water)

sige good luck na lang sa pick up mo :-D
-
prevention of rust is the best solution :-D
-
mga sir pwede gamitin yung wd40 basta wag mong spray directly sa pickup gumamit kayo ng cotton buds or tela pang apply.
-
-
have you tride na po ba 2??
-
how about sa bridge parts? ok lang ba na i sand ko ung lumang chrome finish para even na ulit ung surface then apply another chrome coating? or mag chip agad un? any advice? ang sagwa kasi tignan.

bad idea. hindi ko alam kung chrome paint yung dinedescribe mo dude. it's better na disassemble mo yung bridge parts or trem then clean it with wd40. or send mo sa nag chrome plating yung bridge mo. punasan mo nalang yung bridge parts mo ng tuyong basahan pagkatapos mong mag gitara. meron akong friend na laging pinupunasan yung guitar niya pagkatapos gamitin. i think 7 years old na yung guitar niya pero yung lo-pro bridge sa guitar niya parang bago parin.

yup. wag nyo i-spray directly sa pickups. pwede yung tip lang ng cotton buds. dati palagi kong iniisprayan ng wd40 yung seymour duncan pickup nung isang gitara ko kasi may corrosion na rin sa ibabaw. after a few months the pickup stopped working.
pero dudes pag may nakita kayong signs of rust sa ibabaw ng pole pieces it's possible na meron na rin ganito sa loob. kung hindi nyo ginagamit yung guitar nyo for weeks or months mas maganda itago nyo nalang siya sa hardcase and buy put some silica gel sa case para ma absorb yung moisture. never put leave your guitar in a hot and humid room. humidity ang number one factor and source of rust.

subscribed! :-D

punas punas lng pag tapos mag-guitar... 8-)
-
by knowing first what is the cause then you'll know how to prevent and eliminate it...
HUMIDITY is a major contributor FYI
-
how to eliminate: metal polish. but in the process, mawala din ang chrome/nickel finish. it looks aged but at least walang rust.
how to prevent: put the guitars inside a huge dry box or dehumidifier box.
-
I know one thing get desicants sa mga meds or vitamins and put in your hardcase to prevent molds on our guitars or buy dessicants :-D
-
Pwede WD40 basta make sure don't let it sip in sa loob ng pickup. I even use WD40 to clean my bridge, strings (except when I use Elixir) and tuning head. Tama si sir MarkV.
Hint: usually kahit sa frequent punas, nagfa-fade din yung chrome plate ng mga bridges, more so pag gold plated. Unless you really want to clean it, then go ahead. Pero yes, mas madaling mag fade ito using WD40.
-
-
I tried WD40 to my ibanez stock pickup pero konti lang talaga saka todo punas, kuha ka piece of tela then dun ka maglagay wag mu sprayan sa mismong pickup :-D
-
