As jakejake mentioned, the first 11 or so notes come from an old english fox-hunting song (or nursery rhyme from Winnie the Pooh) that goes: "A-hunting we will go, a-hunting we will go... high-ho the merry-o a-hunting we will go..." binali lang nila ang second phrase but the similarity is there. I also remember a similar ditty when I was a boy scout.

Really... boom tarat doesn't deserve an award. It's just plain self-serving nonsense.

anong category? most popular inane song of the land to date? e kung sa gayon, hindi na pwede kasi madami ng sumunod.

ok lang naman kasi ang boom tarat tarat paminsan minsan. but for the masses to gobble it up like that ,,, kakaawa naman ang pinoy, hindi na na-expose sa mas malalim na musika na tutulong sa kanilang mag-isip... musikang instrumento ng pag-babago.

parang nakakamiss tuloy yung 70's na punong puno ng OPM na talaga namang hataw ang kalidad. that was about the time they gave awards accordingly.

All I remember during my "early" grade school days, our teacher would ask the boys to chant BOOM while the girls TARAT, with actions pa 'to. Some kind of an ice breaker/ loosening up exercise.

Thanks for all the replies to the thread. Unfortunately, ONE HAS YET TO SPECIFY the title of the old song which BOOM TARAT was copied from. I heard about the complaint of Boy Scouts of the Philippines - but again they have yet to show which song it was lifted from.

Until the old song reappears - BOOM TARAT remains to be a good song with a great hook that sounds awfully similar to an old song but you can't quite point it out. This is a good musical tool used by many good songwriters. Which makes the Boom Tarat songwriter a genius of some sort.
