« on: October 11, 2006, 11:40:08 AM »
question para sa mga conservatory guys, meron bang "grades" ang drumming? parang yung sa piano na start ka sa hannon book for grade 1 to grade xx

something like :

grade 1: all rudiments
grade 2: basic rock drumming
grade 3: independence and jazz drumming
grade 4: stick twirling* hehehe
and so on and so forth

if not, maybe we can create one?

it would be cool if there is some sort of curriculum/checklist for drumming, something you can measure your skills with. pansin ko kasi, nawawala yung eagerness to learn new things kapag walang nag cha-challenge sa yo. or minsan na stuck ka na dun sa alam mo ngayon at di na nadadagdagan at di mo alam kung san ka na pupunta.

we are talking about skills here and not musicality. its mainly for improving your chops to better express yourself on the instrument. creativity not required.

sabi na nga ba me magpapahumble dito e hehehe

kung iisipin mo kasi parang ang hirap maging jun regalado/mar dizon/mike alba o bagets. pano kaya sila naging diyos? at least, making some sort of guideline of WHAT TO PRACTICE gives hope to common "tao" like us that we can play like them someday.

hmm ako naman, i created a skill level for myself, advanced basic tawag ko.

as long as the stroke is RR LL kahit anu pa tempo, double stroke pa din tawag dun.

hmmm ganun ba...

well then, i propose that we start a project...multimedia dvd series...

lets start with the intro:

how to read notes, tabs
rudiments (with video demos)
___add your ideas here___

tapos yung second part,

library of grooves (syempre with video demos ulit)
fill ideas
___add your ideas here___

i remember sandy showing me a vid of him demonstrating fills, that's a good start. i'll talk to him about including the vid.

the video demos do not have to be "made by you", it can be some guy you saw from youtube or excerpts from professionally produced dvds. i can consolidate and organize it and burn it to a dvd.

syempre collective effort to kaya ang cost of distribution e yung cost lang nung blank dvd.

may mag vovolunteer bang contributor?

pag naghire kasi ng ganun e di naging instructional dvd na nung pro na yun. im not against it though but it defeats the purpose of the project being an encyclopedia drummatica. it will just be a collage of videos put together with transcriptions.

^^^ the explanation to note reading doesnt have to be in video format. pwedeng gawin sa flash yung explanation then i can pick vids then transcribe so there will be live examples

i have that dvd too, making music, but its about interacting with the bass player, let's reserve that for the more advanced series

Seriously...  Good idea yan, Paolo/peeves.  It's nice to have some sort of "guidelines" para ma-gauge natin kung nasaan na tayo, skill-wise.

It can also be helpful to drummers who are self-taught or who are self-studying (like me).  Kapag aral kasi, one can have the guidance of a mentor.  Habang yung mga self-study naman, we can somehow randomly choose the stuff that we wish to learn.  There's the possibility na baka may ma-skip kami or something.  It would be nice to have some sort of "checklist".

I'll see if I can research something online about this topic.
