That'll come out in part 2 of the interview. We just need a 'virgin' guitar to try it on... Might have to use my kid's Squire Strat. (Time to fire up that GT-2 again...  :-D )

listened to it na rin.  ayos, congrats!  sa wakas na-devirginize nyo na ang podcasting. :-D

ok lang yung maya interview, may part 2 pa yun eh.  pero i felt bitin dun nga sa scalarizer topic.  a podcast would have been a cool opportunity to stick in high-quality before/after scalarizer audioclips.  better than what most of us hacks can do w/ soundclick, etc.

feedback ko lang din kay jim/chette and future interviewers:  make it more fun, makulit, and informal sana.  i tend to listen more when i know how unpredictable things can become.  i suppose talking more in tagalog/taglish wouldn't be so bad?  makes things more "downhome" in this high-tech medium.

again, congrats and great job guys.  maybe you guys can interview Binky and Perf next few weeks and air it sometime soon. ;-)

Well good news for BAMF, a friend of mine, Chin Wong, covers technology for the Manila Standard. He downloaded the podcast and learned about Jobet's invention for the first time, and he's going to contact Bamf to do a story on it for print. So that's one positive thing, hehehe

The other positive thing is the Podcasting project provided me with a crash course in audio editing software. We started off recording clips in Audacity but after running into its limitations, I did a quick overview of other editors and ended up with Cool Edit Pro 2.0 for recording and mixdown to 64kbps mono mp3. Yes, this dates back to 2003 and no longer exists (the company was bought by Adobe and they rechristened it as Adobe Audition), but I found myself very comfortable with it. So it does the job, and that's what counts innit?

Maybe I'll move to another software package for succeeding podcasts, and I will have to hang out in this forum and ask you guys questions. I have questions regarding doing live mixing - riding faders as you would a real mixer, pwede ba dito? And I still need to learn optimum compression/limiting for a radio talk show style recording (which is what a podcast essentially is).

I think I may move to Adobe Audition 2.0 eventually, and that's only because it's what my idol Leo Laporte uses for all his podcasts (he does 10 podcasts a week!)

Also had to compose a theme on the spot using royalty free loops, after Chette warned me we might be sued for using a jazz track from Buhay without their permission. The result was "PM Funk", the wah-wah guitar theme that opens and closes the show. A cut and paste affair, but it's original, and it will have to do for now :)

CEP 2.0 is quite capable and practically perfect for audio post production. I use Wavelab myself but versions after Wavelab 5 started using a dongle, which is one thing I would like to avoid. Still can't beat Wavelab's fx handling and montage feature, though.

Congrats, Bamf! Imagine that? I think we should send Jim the raw files (but at 16 mins, it's gonna be a rather large file). Hmmm... on second though, I think we should compile the outtakes na lang.

As a radioman, there are only a few things that I would like to comment on.  1)  Would be nice if each person being interviewed uses a mic of his own so that there will be no problems with levels.  2)  Use compression so everything is loud.  3)  Tighten the editing so that it will be more interesting and the pace will be faster and nicer.  4)  Taglish and informality would be fun.  5)  Have some form of an outline and well prepared questionaire for the interviewers to ask the interviewees so there is direction in the discussion; however, let the repartee free flowing so that things are more natural.  6)  Add a little bit of high frequency, about 6 to 8 k for better speech intelligibility.  Sorry, lumalabas ang pagka-Program Director ko sa radyo.

Yun lang.  Aside from that, it was a very good first episode.  I know the next ones will be improved further as you get the hang of it and more fun.  Big congrats Jim and Chette and the rest of the Philmusic guys who contributed to this first venture.  Very nice.

Regards,

Yep. Steinberg has been sticking with the dongle thing for quite some time now and it doesnt look like they are going to quit doing that. I am just glad that I am able to put all my Steiny product keys in one dongle and forget about it. I would hate to have dongles take up all my USB ports.

Well, we had it coming! The comment from The Man ;)

About the editing: I admit we wanted one of these pros to edit the raw files. (We were just to shy to ask anyone.) I love your tips, though. I already have this long text file of KitC's advice & answers to all my questions, & really great to add more to this list.

(Regarding the Taglish: We tried. Or rather, Jim & Fran did. You should hear the two of them speak in Tagalog. Horrors of horrors.)

About the "formality" - well yes it's true that I was wearing my Barong Tagalog at the time....

Seriously, I swear I was informal! I talk that way all the time!  Nervous as hell yes, so that helped.

By the way, an announcement: The PhilMusic Podcast is now available on iTunes. Just log into the iTunes music store and search for "PhilMusic" and it'll turn up.  You can download it for free or subscribe to the feed through iTunes . I guess this is the most convenient method for iPod users.
