IMO, just because someone famous is doing it doesn't correspond to it being safe... why do we avoid metal-to-metal contacts in putting cymbals in stands? it's because it may damage the cymbal. For the stacking naman, i think ang danger na doon eh hindi na wood or nylon tip ang tumatama sa cymbal kundi isa pang cymbal, much like hitting the cymbal with Ahead sticks without the tapers, baka mayupi or numipis yung cymbal. Plus hindi masyadong na-aallow yung cymbal na magvibrate freely or magreact dun sa palo mo, so baka mas madali magcrack yung cymbal dahil dun...

i don't think masisira agad but in the long run may possibility talaga.

as for the artists, mga endorsers sila at may nagsusupply sa kanila ng mga cymbals kaya ok lang kahit masira kasi madali lang palitan.

when stacked, cymbals dont get to move around naturally when hit. hindi siya maka-vibrate ng tama, kaya nasestress yung cymbal. so mas malaki ang posibilidad na magcrack.

maganda tunog niya I'll post soundclips kung gusto niyo. trashy na may suntok. hirap i explain eh. hahahaha.

yung stack ko kasi, 15 K zildjian dark crash thin na may malaking crack (repaired by dabomb) tsaka 18 Avedis Medium thin crash na may tatlong crack sa edge (also repaired by dabomb). so... ayun. may sira na siya kaso repaired na. hehehe.

imo definitely in the long run magkakaroon yan ng problema. pero ok lang siya kung pambahay lang, hindi naman agad agad masisira yun. pero kung pang-gig mahirap, mapalakas lang ng konti palo mo wala na.

Kung trashy sound din lang ang hanap mo, then go for the cheaper alloys.

Diba may cymbals si Portnoy na made to be stacked with each other? Yung MAX STAX(sp?) ata by sabian. ganda ng tunog nun - parang closed hihat pero china-ish yung "chick" sound dapat.

Never mind metal fatigue. Think about your hands. Since stacked cymbals don't open up (maybe at all), you tend to hit them harder.

It can be bad for your wrists and tendons in the long run. Though through practice you can strengthen your hands, just think about how soccer players and boxers get Parkinson's later in life.

I don't want to be a party pooper (My idol Zach Hill also has a stacked setup), but do explore for other trashy sound sources there that can be light on your budget and on your hands.
GAS attacks can be fatal to your ATM.

= )

yah thanks sir, mali nga ako

pero ur right, kasi dahil sponsored sila, maybe they make experiments sa cymbals (w/c is not sure kung safe) so that kung maganda tunog, pero nakakasira, gagayahin sila then dahil unique ang way ng pro's hindi nila masisisi yung company sa pagkasira and bibili nalang sila ng new one hahahah! IMO ulit  :-D

I have no experience in using stacked cymbals but combining different splashes and mini-chinas can give you a wide array of different thrashy sounds.

haha
