tuning tricks
« Reply #25 on: July 19, 2006, 03:41:06 AM »
Sir try using Remo fibre skyn batter head and then tune the bottom head higher pitched than the batter head(top), dapat low pitch lang batter head para hindi syado litaw ang 'ringy' overtones.Dapat evenly tuned rin each lug para matalbog with lesser metallic overtones.

Snare drum tuning

Mga peeps...

paano ba tamang pag-tono sa snare drum?

Noon kasi medium tension ako sa batter and tight yung bottom.  Problem ko was the sympathetic buzz when I hit the 12" tom. malakas talaga yung buzz. To reduce it, I tighten the wires. Can be good but its not good when you want to play with the snare drum.

What I did was loosen the bottom a bit, tighten the top... so tight na halos di mo na ma-press down yung head.

The kanina yung isang snare drum sa perfect pitch napansin ko na sobrang higpit nga ng top and bottom heads tapos sobrang loose yung snares.  It sounded poppish.  Ayun, medyo ginaya ko. I tightened the batter a bit more and loosened the snares.

Heto ang samples:

Medium snare tension, pretty tight heads: http://dl.pinoyhaws.com/miguel/snare.wav

Loose snare tension, tight batter: http://dl.pinoyhaws.com/miguel/snareloose.wav

Or bibili talaga dapat ako ng snare drum? Thanks.

Ahehe! Tnx

di ok yun.
iba kasi ang material nun. mas makapal.
you have to crank it up sa tuning which would possibly damage your snare.
marching snares are built differently than drumset snares.
i wouldn't do it if i were you.

Remo controlled sound...

Fatter ang tunog nya.  I use evans reverse dot, similar to remo CS pero nasa ilalim yung dot. Compared sa unmuffled head, mas-fat and warm ang tunog nya.

« Reply #47 on: August 30, 2006, 09:22:13 PM »
i've already changed the batter head to remo coated ambassador, and 13"
gibraltar snare wires... i've tighten all the lugs, both the batter and
the resonant side... but still, it don't sound too cracky and has
overtones like echoes... what do you think is the best way to make it
sound like other piccolo snares? tnx!!!

did you tighten the snare wire?

If you did, then untighten it. Really really loose dapat sya, but not too loose that it just rattles.

if you can barely press your finger into the resonant head, loosen a bit. Wag masyadong mahigpit.

overtones are normal but can be minimized with proper tuning.

Best help you can get it visit music studios and observe how they tuned their snare.  That was what I did.  Took me 6 months to get my snare drum to sound great.
