« on: May 28, 2007, 11:44:57 AM »

ngbuzz kc if I lowered the saddles to much, kaya I think the bow of the neck affects this.

ako i just recently learned how to adjust mine. there are resources on the net pero what the heck? eto ganito ang method.

1. check the neck relief - fret the first fret and 14th fret then check the middle part of it (around the 4th-7th fret) see how much space there is from the fretboard and the string. if there is too much space, your neck has too much relief (you have to tighten the rod) if there is very little space, your neck is just right. if there is no space, then your rod might need a little loosening up.

2. next, making the necessary adjustments. check the truss nut, then mark the original starting point with a marker, or a pencil, so that you know your point of origin just in case you need to revert to the original setting.

next, try to loosen the truss rod first by nudging it counter-clockwise, with that you'd have an idea whether it is too loose or too tight already. tightening the rod too much might break it, so better see if it's loose or tight to begin with to avoid accidents.

next, do 1/8-1/4 clockwise (to tighten) turns on the rod, very carefully. then wait a few moments for the neck to set. then check if the neck bow is being corrected. then make the necessary adjustments after. usually it takes only 1/2 of a turn to get the job done, depending on the amount of relief on the neck. a good truss rod would give you little resistance as you turn it, you shouldn't have difficulty in turning it.

3. ok, remember that this adjustment should be fairly easy. if you're finding difficulty in turning the nut, chances are it might be too tight already or there might be something wrong with the neck or you might be doing it wrong. time to contact your friendly neighborhood luthier.

hope this helps! and goodluck!
