Try playing time on the floor tom instead of hihats while keeping your left foot on two and four, or do quarter notes.
Play dynamically with floor tom by putting accents on the beat where bass drum is suppose to be. You can achieve this by playing far off center of the drum (near the rim) on the unaccented notes, then hit dead center on the accented. You can also lay a piece of cloth such as T-shirt on the floor tom to reduce resonance.
Add colors by hitting the bell of your ride cymbal and hihats once in a while just to compensate for the missing bass drum part. Depende 'to sa song na tinutugtog nyo kasi medyo mag iiba ang feel nung kanta.
You can try playing this way paminsan minsan pag practice para din ma develop yung independence/coordination ng mga limbs mo and hopefully, for you to develop original grooves and phrases.
