Mike Portnoy : New Dream Theater Song for new album!
« on: May 07, 2009, 09:00:29 PM »
So here's the song "A Nightmare to Remember"
now let's discuss about MP and the DT's sound

It has a darker atmosphere and MP is doing a faster tempo with his double bass pattern and he finally incorporates the blast beat

oh and his vocals in the record sure tells his age

Had listened to "A Nightmare To Remember". Great mix, fast triplet 16ths on the bass drum, great drum sound... Mas gusto ko to kesa "A Rite Of Passage"

kamusta mga songs?  :?

Ganda lalo na yung "The Best Of Times" at "Count of Tuscany".

about the songs, from wikipedia.org

The lyrics for the album were written by John Petrucci and Mike Portnoy. With the exception of "A Rite of Passage", each song is about a personal experience.

A Nightmare to Remember

According to Rich Wilson, "A Nightmare to Remember" includes solos from Petrucci and Rudess in addition to multiple time signature changes. Petrucci wrote the lyrics about a car accident he was involved in as a child.

A Rite of Passage

"A Rite of Passage" involves Freemasonry and secret societies. "A Rite of Passage" was the album's first single; it was available for free download through Roadrunner Record's website for one day in May. Its music video—also the first of the album—debuted on May 8.

Wither

Petrucci wrote "Wither" about writer's block. Wilson compared the song to "Vacant" from Train of Thought.

The Shattered Fortress

"The Shattered Fortress" is the final part of Portnoy's Twelve-step Suite. The song includes motifs from past songs in the saga.

The Best of Times

"The Best of Times" is about Mike Portnoy's father, who died due to cancer. "I just wanted to write something that was a tribute to our life together," said Portnoy, who played the song for his father prior to his death.

The Count of Tuscany

As the album's longest track, Wilson calls "The Count of Tuscany" "the monster", comparing it to "A Change of Seasons" and cited Pink Floyd as a possible influence.[9] Petrucci wrote the lyrics about a count that frightened him while he visited Tuscany.
