Post by: jasperjugan on September 28, 2006, 04:55:39 PM
Guys, saan ba may nagtuturo ng drums? Meron kasing nagtatanong na gustong mag-aral ng drums, pero beginner sya, as in no experience.

San Juan-Mandaluyong-Pasig area preferrably.

Suggestions?

Thanks! :)

Title: Drum Lessons ? Help me Decide.
Post by: fredzs on October 15, 2006, 08:39:59 PM
Ok. After seeing numerous drum videos in youtube. I've decided to go back to taking drum lessons. I've been playing for 5 years. 2 Months of which i took drum lessons with Jun Regalado. The rest is self taught.

Now, back to topic. I've decided to take drum lessons again. But this time, I'm so stoked on who take drum lessons with. I'm thinking of going back with Sir Jun.

Any suggestions guys ?? Mar Dizon or Jun Regalado ?

hi. helping out someone who wants to seriously learn to play the drums. he has been playing for 2 years self study only. can you recommend anyone who would be a good drum teacher that does home service. PM me please. Any help would be appreciated.

better get a teacher who you already know, or have seen playing quite some time. mas ok yun. mahirap din kasi minsan sa friend, nauuwi lang sa inuman. hehehe :-D

medyo mapapamahal kung home service eh. pero kung yun talaga ang gusto mo, i suggest si sir Andre Quimpo nagbibigay ng home lessons (got the chance to talk to him last june sa pinoydrums EB3, in which he also gave a clinic). sabi niya nga na nagbibigay siya ng drum lessons at home pero around that time sabi niya medy busy siya eh. try mo ngayon...

yun nga lang di ko alam number niya or email. send an email na lang sa pinoydrums yahoogroup. active member si sir Andre doon.

peace!

Title: Drum Teacher Reference Thread
Post by: drumster on January 17, 2007, 02:05:12 AM
Since there are a couple of recent posts regarding drum teacher inquiries, and I don't know where to move them, I opened this thread which would serve as a drum teacher reference thread.

So, for those who are in search of a drum teacher, you can inquire through this thread.

And to those who offer drum and percussion lessons, you can also post your rates, infos and offers here.

Take note...  This is a public forum.  Even Philmusic.com non-members and lurkers can read our posts.  So be responsible with the contact details that you'll be posting and with the negotiations.

Title: Re: Drum Teaching Service Reference Thread
Post by: phfreq on March 04, 2007, 11:58:17 PM
warning: long post :-)

Different teachers for different students.. Different teaching styles for different students.

Isa pa, most likely puno na yung schedule nila; and konting-konti lang ung vacant na time slots ko within the week dahil sa priorities.

Searched sa philmusic forums... tumingin ng feedback... looked at how the prospective teachers
communicate/interact/deal with other people (if available). From there, nagtungo sa pagpapaturo ko sa kanya under jihad.

Ang gusto kong matugtog ay rock, progressive, funk, latin/afro-cuban/brazilian and jazz. Alam kong rocker si JP. Not sure about the funk and definitely not jazz :-). Anyway, with the short 1 to 2 months that I have, alam kong hindi ko matututunan ung iba so ok din to start with rock.

Had 4 sessions with him and so far lessons are great. Basics ng strokes, paradiddles, triplets, flams and combinations. Hindi man sya jazz drummer  pero I can see na he's trying his very best learning that (satisfies my third basic req).

So, if you more or less have the same "condition" as mine, or you have the same basic requirement as mine, you might want to try jihad. Kung hindi nyo man magustuhan or you think you need a different teacher, you can always go to a different teacher since your commitment is on a "per session" basis. But don't let this make you think that he will just teach you during the session .. in fact he will bug you (via yahoo messenger or forum pm) to practice the exercises.

I'm sure you can imagine ... ;-)

meron siyang tinuturong mga backsticking, three way backsticking, etc..

try mo lang kc im a student of UST Conservatory of Music and im a percussion major..
dalawa lang prof namin sa percussion and either sa kanila ndi nagtuturo sa pageexhibition ng stick, and other related to that.. turo lang talaga nila sight reading, and other classical percussion instruments like tympani, marimba, etc.. :-)

+1,000,000 k phreq!!! like him m mdyo old na den, been playing drums since early 90's pa...on and off, been to different bands pero i was not aware na meron palang term like paradiddle, triplet or in short rudiments and other technical terms ang pagdu-drums...ouido kasi ako so zipra lang and then tugtugan na. when i first heard of JIHAD i thought it was a joke so i ended up talking to JP in one of the mini EB sessions...i had two sessions with him and i can definitely say that it is worth the money you are paying...my teacher ka na...may gear adviser (grabe bibigyan ka ng tip kung ano pwede substitute sa ibang parts na mas mura hehehe) and meron ka pa friend o drum buddy. Hindi sya madamot sa mga techniques and talagang tuturuan ka... with just two sessions na improve agad yung drumming skills ko...and nai-aaply ko na to sa drumset...amazing ano...syempre u need to practice also para mabilis madevelop saka kasi kukulitin ka ni JP sa text eh hehehe. It's a pleasure and a privilege to be part of JIHAD enjoy talaga!!! JP the best ka talaga bro...

pahabol:
would you believe first meeting namen natuto kaagad ako magdouble peds...mabagal pa syempre...pero man i have never tried playing double peds before...my magic siguro ung eliminator ni JP hehehe

hahaha..heeeya wendsworld...wow thanks for the kind words, its a pleasure you appreciate my teaching..cheers man...and bro its not the eliminator..its your eagerness and motivation to learn that made you pull that double pedal trick.....looking forward for more fun drumming sessions with you...heeeeeeeeyaaaa

Well, IMO, it actually depends. If money's no problem, then try to learn as much as you can. If not, try to have a few lessons and once you learn the basics, you can stop for a while and build up from there sa bahay nalang muna. it's a skill so you really have to take time to learn it so making time for it at home would definitely help. One day you'll feel you need more talaga then you can take up other lessons or higher levels of learning. At least it gives you time to tighten up your rudiments, and save money as well.  :-D

hi cymor! im also taking up lessons in yamaha pero dito sa sg. they have 4 levels which will run for 3 yrs. once a week 1 hour sa isang class. yung level 1 nila is for 6 months, tapos another 6 months sa level 2 then 1 year each for levels 3 and 4. i'm currently in level 3 pero hindi pa masyado highlight sa odd times, meron lang pa ilan ilan. shuffles marami, syncopated, and ghost notes.

yung level 1 namin is more on understanding note values and reading din syempre.

my teacher once told us that a rep from yamaha japan came down to singapore and together with other teachers in the region, they were reviewing the curriculum, so if ever totoo nga ito, dapat pare pareho ang curriculum ng yamaha at least dito sa region natin.

sana nakatulong ito ng kaunti sa yo and enjoy your new class.  :-D

I have been teaching drums for five years already. I'm playing drums for almost 30 years. I can teach you how to read and write drum notations, different styles of drum styles. I'm currently working on a book written by David Garibaldi. Lots of exciting exercises that we can use on our everyday drumming.

Hi my name is Ciro de Leon from Reklamo! :) I have already sessioned with some of the top artists such as Eula valdez, Alec Bovic, and plenty of underground bands with different genres. I also recorded songs for galaxy records and other recording studios. And now I am currently accepting Drum students in my home or out.

Watch out for my band "Reklamo" for the album is coming out soon under Ballyhoo records.

Qc area po ako...I am available every mondays and tuesdays. 300 per/hr, i usually teach here at home, mas mura kasi yun for the students. I have a decent kit naman. Learning is easier if it's fun and application-oriented. Txt me at 0915-6008866. thanks.

I also teach how to play double pedal, incorporating percussion instruments in a drumkit and most of all the right outlook and discipline one must have to acheive better drumming. :-) godbless.

Haba nang back read ko... am still in the process of choosing which to pick pero meroon lang me tanong...

Am already 34 pwede pa ba ako magumpisa magaral nang drums? Why do I want to learn to play drums wala lang at the most will play as back up drummer in church. Am also sort of a klutz and hoping that learning to play the drums will improve my dexterity.

Do I need to have my own set na? Was adviced by my drummer friend to buy a "starter" set muna (read as uber cheap) before upgrading as in completely replacing the drum set after about 6 months of training or so.

If the lessons are once a week di ba parang mabagal ang pacing? Kasi am also in the process of training in a sport (late bloomer me) and once a week medyo mabagal ang improvement not until I regularly played twice a week tsaka lang napansin ang improvement.

Thanks

i learned to play drums this way... go to the itunes, search for "Little Kids Rock", merong downloadable lessons d'on for beginners ng drums at guitar.. maganda dito you can do it  at your own pace... tapos pwede sya sa walang experience talaga sa drums. and drum teacher mo pa ay si liberty de vitto (drummer ni paul mccartney and billy joel)!

I did this dahil wala akong time magtake ng drum lessons... very tight ang aking sched (i.e. playing games, level 16 palang ako sa Titan Quest at dalawang linggo nako naglalaro, imagine that!)

also, try unirunner's lessons in itunes. these are all free and very helpful.

gotta go, dapat level 17 nako mamaya! hehehehe!

I'm a firm believer of learning something new everytime so that goes with any age as well. I believe you can learn to be a drummer at your age. If you can afford a semi decent set then by all means. If you eventually learn, you'd want to upgrade so getting a starter set might limit you. but getting a starter set would benefit if you end up not pursuing it hehe

Lessons once a week is "fine" IF (i said IF) you practice for the rest of the week. if you make your lesson day the same as your practice day, it'll take you months and months before even developing.

my two cents. Good luck! welcome to the tamboleros club :)

Why not; if you can arrange value for the item you are working for with your student with the frequency of drum lessons then it would make sense.

It seems you are a driven person to teach and impart your drumming knowledge to others, that is an excellent trait that a teacher should have on its belt. Kudos to you and go for it bro!

im not so sure if this is the right thread to ask this pero wala ako mahanap eh  :-)

thanks!

what about the internet?

i usually visit some sites especially youtube!
try searching freedrumlessons there (they also have their website www.freedrumlessons.com) or drumteacher76.
works for me!

the only draw back is that you cant ask questions and you get the answers right away. (but the freedrumlessons have their forum there but answers will come the day after.)

this may help while your in search of your drum prof.!  :-D

the only draw back is that you cant ask questions and you get the answers right away. (but the freedrumlessons have their forum there but answers will come the day after.)

this may help while your in search of your drum prof.!  :-D

yup, nagsimula na kami dyan! thanks! :-)

Hi guys, I have been longing to have a professional drum mentor ever since, I learned a lot through self teaching but it comes to a point that you know that you have to have a mentor cause you're actually stuck up! Now that I have the money (Not sure with my time) I now need more informations about who could teach me (Michael Alba, Mar Dizon please... be my guest!) How much are their rates, where could the lessons be held and stuff... I need informations..

Guys, please post all that you know here as it will help all drummers and the drumming community in general.

Currently I don't have a drumset yet, so if I need to go to them (teachers Crib or place).. I will.. Anything for drums.. anything for my passion.

guys, you know what? if you think you have the skills (to play and to teach). And I mean REAL skills. You think you can teach, you have the gear and your location is good. This might be the best time to advertise your stuff! (how many drummers are viewing philmusic?) :-D

Actually open pa to men, kaso di na JIHAD ang tawag.. MMA na (ayus eh no? hehe)... same guy ang nagtuturo.. The master JP.. ayus pre.. Let me take this opportunity to give a review and also advertise yung Music School ng friend and kapwa forumite natin na si sir JP..  :-D :-D

Eto muna, if you don't have an Idea about JP or JIHAD, just back-read.. You'll find lots of great and wonderful reviews for him..

I was actually looking for a drum instructor back then kaso super tight yung budget kasi just bought my drumset. Been studying the craft for how many years na.. I need to level up in my playing..

Mejo maingay ang pangalan ni JP rito sa thread.. had lots of good reviews and feedbacks from previous posts... So I got his number from Riff..

by the way here's his number at plug na rin 09165312635.. MMA (Metro Musicians Academy) Located at Royal Midway plaza #419 Tandang Sora Ave. Brgy Culiat Quezon City. I'm just doing the advertisement out of freewill. I think if naghahanap kayo ng magandang music school na sulit, ito yun.. and kudos for JP as well

Nung tinext ko si JP.. he replied right away.. Really accommodating.. a few texts and boom.. start na.. Ginagawa yung pwesto niya nung pumunta ako pero pag upo ko sa drums niya.. mismo yung gears..  may 2 rooms for drums run.. tapos may isa pang room na complete band yung set-up.. may iba pang rooms for other instruments although I'm just interested sa drums.. hehe...

General things that I learned. I've been studying rudiments ever since. Siguro 6 years na rin. All the while, I was thinking na these rudiments were actually made for independence. Basically kasi, sa pad ko lang pinapraktis to and that's what I've been doing ever since. JP actually taught me new rudiments one that I'm not much familiar with and also the old ones I knew.. and showed me it's application to the drum set.. He has so much creative Idea and nakita ko yung vastness nung application, some ideas that I haven't thought of before.

Got some grooves and new fills as well.. The guy knows how to teach.. May iba kasi magaling lang na drummer pero di naman marunong magturo.. he is a combination of both.. hehehe.. magaling na drummer and also teacher.. :-D

Also, andami niyang baong tricks... hehe.. humingi ako.. basta mga tricks na pampeke.. hahaha.. Napaka Valuable... It definitely is worth the buck.

Other stuff.. Ang maganda kay JP, he can adjust to your schedule.. at tska naintindihan niya yung budget issues ko nung mga panahong nagpalesson ako.. mejo putol putol kasi yung sessions namin.. due to my sched and some budget related stuff.. Naintindihan naman niya and he still accommodated.. Even after nung sessions, he still texts, I mean, events.. gears.. updates.. ayus talaga.. You better try it.

by typing this, I feel na hindi ko pa nga fully nabigyan ng justice yung mga learnings ko.. Until now I find them useful.. Though ang application tsaka usefulness nila is lalabas pa rin through constant practice. I suggest that you guys try it out para maintindihan niyo.. and also for further proofs... Basahin ninyo yung previous posts regarding JP/JIHAD...

Basta... Hope this goes out to as much people.. God Bless sir JP..  :-D :-D

~~ Around 4th year HS - Naging interested ako sa guitars, so nagself study ako.
Since mga 19 - 20years old ako ay
