interesting ... so this lens is not as sharp. Were you at max. zoom (55mm) when you took this?

that photo is my first DSLR shot, and was a newbie at that time (still learning).. a professional can get a better shot using the same lens, 18 55mm...

55mm, sagad...  :-D

a MACRO lens though will definitely give you better results...

Macro lenses are special lenses designed for close-up work with smaller objects. As you focus further out from the minimum focusing distance, the reproduction ratio drops accordingly on non-macro lenses, but the macro lens will still focus out to infinity...

i have friends actually who use Nikkor 105mm macro lens for portraiture... and really get super sharp images...

in the case of the photo i posted, i had a hard time focusing since 18-55mm lens isn't intended for macro work...

tip: you can make your 50mm lens take macro shots by using extension tubes... the extension tubes will make you get closer to your subject :)

I usually find it hard to use a lens with a variable aperture. Sobra laking factor para sa akin yun kahit na gustung-gusto ko bumili ng 55-200mm F/3.5-5.6

whats your kit lens? hows the sharpness compared to your kit lens?

Same as yours 18-55mm IS. I think it pretty much beats my kit lens with regards to sharpness & focus. I was thinking of getting a Sigma 70-300mm, but after I read comparison between the Canon 55-250mm & Sigma 70-300mm I chose to get the latter.

I'll still keep my kit lens (for now) for wide angled shots, but when I get the Canon 50mm 1.4 &/or Canon 16-35mm f2.8L I'd probably sell it.

Yeah, I saw this once on youtube. This is also 1 reason why want to get a 50mm lens. How about Close-Up Filters? Someone suggested that I use these instead of extension tubes for my kit lens.

Here's a sample:

My favorite will always be the 70-200f4.0 IS and the nifty-fifty. Sharp parehas, pero siempre lamang sa bokeh yung 70-200, lamang naman sa lowlight ang 50mm. Planning to get the 135mm. For me, primes are way better, pagod lang hehehe.

Well I think di masyadong malaki factor yung pagiging macro sa portraits, it's probably the range + quality ng glass + lighting. At siempre, iba talaga primes sa portrait.

I'm maximizing what I can get with the kit lens.... but it won't be long I'm going to substitute it with a 17-55 F2.8 . Haven't tried the 50mm F1.4 thouhg. I opted for the F1.8 II because its dirt cheap....and it takes really sharp pictures too.

17-55mm f2.8 is a good choice too. I guess you're more into portrait & close-up shots eh?

no need for the 50mm 1.4, 1.8 is good enough...

17-55 F2.8 is a great lens, good for landscapes, seascapes, and portraitures...

wide, midrange, and a telephoto <---- will cover all areas...

lens trinity: 10 22, 24 70, 70 200  :-D
