Title: RJ Broadcaster: what the hell were they thinking?
Post by: titser_marco on December 18, 2017, 11:57:05 PM
Not sure if you've read it but RJ Guitar Center put out a presser talking about their top of the line guitar called the Broadcaster:

http://business.inquirer.net/242669/rj-guitars-broadcaster-rock-music-world/amp

Not familiar with how copyright laws work over time but wasn't this exact model name the reason why we have the Telecaster in the first place? Should we expect either Gretsch or Fender to raise an eyebrow over this?

Akala ko ba Super Vintage na 5-in-1 guitar ang flagship nila?  Bakit ngayon Tele style na?

too small of a market for Gretsch or Fender to give a rats ass, IMHO.

Fair point.  It just boggles the mind as regards the choice of the model name.

We Filipinos are steeped in western capitalist values I guess. Leo Fender, the 50s.
I guess this is RJ being sentimental of the glory days of yesteryears.

with rj's capacity to manufacture guitars, they could have at least build something with an original and straightforward design. no gimmicky stuff. even if they will just get ideas or inspiration from classic guitar designs. similar to what duesenberg and fano does. i might consider buying an rj guitar if they will do that.

to be honest, I like the craftsmanship of RJ before. The Korean made RJ guitars. Now, I don't know.

Yun lang... Well, hopefully, their current venture with this Japanese company would help improve the quality of their products.

But seriously though. I've tried some Bacchus units made in the PH and they are pretty good for the price point. If RJ gets that kind of quality and does his marketing right, he may have a shot at capturing the low to mid price guitar market.

true! I got a chance to try out their take on Jazzmaster and the neck felt really good to my hands. Lighter than the usual Jazzmaster though.

Yun din. Thr jerkoff RJ silhouette and his tacky initials always ruin it for me. There was a suggestion back then in GC for him to just name his guitars to Jacinto guitars.  Sounds classy.
