Hi,

So I have a Samson S Direct Plus. However, I can't rely on the following to power this device:

1. 9V Battery Power
-Don't know the lifeline of the battery
-Expensive to buy new sets of batteries everytime

2. Phantom Power
-Can't rely for all venues to have phantom power in their main mixer

Are there any other ways I can have this powered?

I'm thinking of using my M-Audio Fastrack's phantom power to do the job. I'm not sure though if I can power the M-Audio using the USB to 220V converter. I don't even know if this will work. Don't want to break my M-Audio.

What do you guys think?

Not your typical perfect musician. I'm just a music lover who happens to have a guitar, a camera, some microphones, and a laptop in his hands. http://www.youtube.com/user/AldriceChincuanco

if that's the case, then get a passive DI like the RADIAL StageBug. that's the problem with Active DI's. it is dependent on a power source. best to have 2 dis in your bag. an active and a passive.

the passive will be saving your ass more often than not, and will be enough to balance your signal. as you are sending signals from your M-Audio (which is already considered an active signal), a passive DI is more often than not preferred.

if you're not liking the tone in the passive di, it means youre using a subpar DI with cheapo transformers. good passive DIs sound transparent imho.

if you still prefer the active DI, you can buy those newstar adaptors with oldschool 9V battery heads to power your DI, I really advise against this tho (noise issues)
good luck!

Hello.

Thanks for your advise. I'm actually considering getting a stagebug now. Just curious, how does the passive DI basically power itself?

For getting the newstar adaptor, will it destroy the unit?

A Passive DI needs no power to work. it uses internal transformers that require no power to balance or amplify signals. that's the beauty of a passive DI. get a stagebug. its life changing hahahaha

the newstar wouldn't destroy the unit, but newstar adaptors however do not have noise filters in them hence, there is a risk of introducing noise in your signal chain just because of the adaptor.
