depends on the song. i usually use a plate reverb for vocals ... the decay time would vary depending on the song. also since i use plug-ins a lot and not a hardware reverb, i can layer different type reverb for texture.

i tend to use plugs as well but hardware has its uses. i use a midiverb in my acoustic rig, actually...the unit is simple and it is really easy to dial in a good sound for small shows. the advantage of using plugs these days is that you can use "profiles" of hardware units which can be loaded into a software reverb program opening up a massive amount of possibilities in your production workflow. if the OP doesn't currently have a DAW setup, i encourage moving in that direction to give you more flexibility as far as reverb choices...

I only use plugs during mixing... outboards during tracking ( para bawas resources and memory usage )

dont overdo effects on vocals
depends on each tune
slight reverb, subtle chorus, proper EQ'ing, lil distort, delays ;)
not too much stereo, except on some parts where you want a certain effect [hooks, etc]
you dont have to compress everytime
also try to eq the reverb itself
if u wanna get creative = lots of possibilities there
distort and pitch bend, time stretch, reverse
vocoders, talk box, assign any knob to automate
lfo, filters, wah wah effect, etc
chop parts, slice, all sorts of yo wtf!

ok lang sakin gumamit ng slight compression during vocal tracking. but never reverb unless im capturing the natural verb of the room.

Never Record WITH EFFECTS! On Vocals, dont compress... limit only...Or else...

Slight compression is okay with vocals. If you need to compress further during mixing stage, you might even find that it sounds smoother (less 'effected') than having to compress the track only once, but with more aggressive settings.
