what do you guys think about the hip-hop band,
THE ROOTS
they play live instruments
they have a human beatbox,
live keyboards
dope bass player
stellar drum player
i think they have a DJ now.
and questlove is one of the best MC's out there
-
i havent heard about that band...but in terms of ya info...they will be GUD!
-
if you've seen the movie
BROWN SUGAR,
the first background song is the live version of
"love of my life" by THE ROOTS featuring COMMON
that version of that song is from the album THE ROOTS COME ALIVE.
that particular album is really good if you are just starting to know the band. the album is really full of energy and you can really see how good THE ROOTS are. although it is not the best album of the band according to critics.
and here is the full lineup:
vocals - black thought
vocals, turntable vocalist, and background vocals - scratch
keyboards - kamal
bass - hub
drums - ?uestlove ( i was wrong about him on my last post )
i am not really sure about the lineup right now but i think they have a more regular DJ now.
anyway, just try checking them out on the web, i'm sure you can find them on search engines like yahoo music.
-
oh....i havent seen that movie...but i'll check them up,, they sounds like a HIP-HOP Band?? lol..not that common ya.
-
hmmm... i'm particularly interested with "the roots" now. too band they lost Ben Kenney to Incubus. nways, i'll check them out! :)
-
THE ROOTS are freaking awesome.
their video what they do
which is like a
"how to" make a rap video.
you rent a mansion.
rent cars with the first 100km free.
get "models" to dance around a pool and you drink champagne(ginger ale).
and so on...
their new album is ok their old stuff is better.
talib kweli is better.
or k-os.
-
didn't the Roots perform with Eminem in last year's MTV Video Awards?
-
dont know..but that'z gud..they might be the first ever successful HIP-HOP Band [if they are]...lol!
are they aLL white or Mix?? [i havent checked them]~
-
just got done with more reserching
here's the latest on their ever changing lineup
black thought - MC
?uestlove - drummer
hub - bass
kamal - keys and guitars
scratch - the human beatbox (vocal turntablist) and percussions
ben - guitars, he is the only white member in the band
i think they lost another MC (Malik B i think ) just before their last album PHRENOLOGY was made.
anyway, i am really enjoying the info sharing on this particular band
thanks guys for responding on this thread that i started
-
ya thatz gud 2...some people in this site like HIp Hop!
-
i luv da roots! their single, "Break you off" (w/Musiq) and "Complexity" (Jill Scott) from the album Phrenology mixes hip hop and soul together and gives a fresh sound that can be so relaxing. The lyrics are especially cool, reminding me of poetry in motion. not the typical theme of love lyrics usually heard in pop songs.
"Bad Misses, Throwin RASPBERRY kisses on me...
Is it because he's superficial
Or is he too submissive
Or did I come along and hit you with the FUTURISTIC..."
-
lmao...pop...haha! hope their pure hip-hop band...
-
the ROOTS are hip-hop with substance.
they fall in the same category as
talib kweli
k-os
checkmate
ozomatli
medusa
krs-one
common
NAS
etc...
not the [gooey brown stuff] they play on TV.
the good hip-hop gets little to no air play.
-
agreed. i also recommend Jurrasic Five.
-
aiyo...(i havent check the band) are they Americans or Mixed??
-
yeah jurassic 5 is very good also.
Ozomatli
is mexican
molotov is also mexican they are good too.
k-os and checkmate canadian.
the rest are i believe american
not sure about medusa
-
Tnx man...but i mean the ROOTS?
-
ROOTS are from the US
-
knew it...lol...got to check them up soon!
pz~
-
i dunno if u guys already knows but ben thier guitarist is the new bassist for incubus
-
yep. ;) hey, Hooker! have you checked out TLC? Time Lapse Consortium that is! it's Mike and Jose's side project w/ Ben and an 11-piece orchestra. damn good!
-
If you hate misogynistic messages and would love to see a man DJing through his own tongue, then you should buy Roots.. Jurassic 5 is also an awesome hiphop band.. Musicality and art in hiphop, anyone?
-
jurassic 5 is an underground band ryt? [if i'm not mistaken]...
-
I checked out 50 cent.. His songs are cool.. You wanna kill somebody after hearing 'em all.. Hey PB, is he a former gang member?
-
yo,,that's nice...i dont think 50's a former gangssta before~
he just like shooting peep...& he got shot 7 times,,but still survived...hahaha lmao~
-
The Roots is one of my most favorite hip-hop bands of all time! All their music is done live in the studio, and it sounds good. They also put on a real decent live show...the last show I saw, they played for 1 1/2 hrs straight! Real good stuff.
-
The Roots are truly amazing. I guess I'm lucky enough to witness them several times, but everytime I've seen them they always come through with some of the best performances ever.
If you like The Roots... you should check out... Crown City Rockers (www.crowncityrockers.com (http://www.crowncityrockers.com)) These guys and gal are awesome.
-
Roots sounds awesome live... i saw them live a couple of times in houston...
Jurrassic 5 ( J5 ) is dope ... go peep em ... straight REAL HIPHOP
mosa
btw: 50 cent is wack ... straight garbage...
