Q> Adding Pickguard, does it depriate our guitars cost?
« on: April 28, 2015, 12:07:54 PM »
Question:
1. does having a transparent a pickguard on a guitar depreciates its cost when it does not have any when you bought them?
2. If it's not transparent would it?

++if you're buying it, would you feel its cost is depreciated?
comments and feedback (as a buyer) please :)

IMHO, the bottomline should be if there's any permanent modification that involves drilling or sawing holes into the guitar, it should depreciate. if the mod is easily removable like stickers, then it should be fine.

If it is an expensive guitar and removing the pickguard will result in visible marks then yes it can lower its resale value.

IMO if it's an expensive guitar (Taylor, Martin, bowteek) it's safer to not put a pickguard on, even if it removes cleanly. let it have its battle scars. even if it's a stick-on transparent one that comes off clean, the finish would age at a different rate.

If it's a normal guitar, I guess it's okay to put one on, if you're the type to actually damage that part of the guitar with regular use (I'm one of those guys).  If anything, it's an improvement (in the legal sense), and the price may not dip if you  market it right.

Correct, the covered area will not age at the same time

nakalimutan ko pala yung buyer's perspective:

assuming you disclose that the pickguard is aftermarket:

kung kilala ko yung model, I might haggle for a lower price.
kung hindi, I'll think it's cool,kasi transparent.
kung hindi, tapos hindi transparent, ok lang, but I'll haggle for a lower price if you slap a tort one on. (i hate tort on acoustics)

if you don't disclose that the pickguard is aftermarket, I'll base my decision on the original price and vintage of the guitar.

pag luma and/or mahal, magreresearch ako, tapos pag wala palang pickguard, haggle down.
pag di luma and/or mura lang, kahit regular secondhand price bibilhin ko, me libreng pickguard eh!
basta hindi tort at hindi tabingi ang pagkagawa. lalo na pag clear, tapos may fingerprint or balakubak or bulbol sa ilalim di ko bibilhin at all.

if it's a taylor 600 series, which i think it is, adding an OEM pickguard should not depreciate its value. pero medyo maselan yang task na yan. kung matatanggal yung PG na walang maiiwang marks, eh di ok lang siguro.
Hindi dapat nakakapagod mag-Philmusic.
