My dream of owning a drumset has finally come true...

Maraming salamat kay Carlo (barrabas) for making arrangements and accomodating my request for a sealed 5-pc Tama Silverstar kit. I got a black wrap and picked it up last Friday night from Audiophile Festival Mall (Thanks Mike and Jun).

I also bought a set of Sabian XS20 cymbals (promotional set with free 18" crash) from GA Yupangco last Saturday.

Haven't assembled and set it up yet. Di pa magka-oras kasi may sinalihan na gruelling 120km mountain bike event kahapon (Philmofo XCM-MIM) at kailangan ko pa bumili ng suitable floor mat/carpet/whatever.

Looking forward to slowly setting things up for the next few days after work hours...

A very momentous part of my life... I'm very happy! :)

Salamat bro! Oo. Sobra kong ninamnam. Matagal ko na din kasi inaasam-asam.  :-D

Saka, iba talaga kapag virgin... este sealed sa kahon...  :-D

At makahawak at himas!  :-D

Pati pala ako, virgin!  :-D First time mag-assemble!

First time din mag-to-tono with the aid of a Tama Tension Watch na makukuha ko by Wednesday (c/o DrumworksIII). No experience e. Gagamitin ko muna yung recommended values ng Tension Watch sa Tama website para maging starting basis ng tunog, then saka ko i-tune from that point kung anuman ang maging preference ko eventually.

Ka-miss itong Philmusic. Mabuti up na muli...

Snare: G2 coated/Hazy 300, Toms: G2 clear/G1 clear. Both heads tuned E-B-F#-C# (snare, 10, 12, 16 toms, respectively).

Regarding sa bilis ng wala sa tono, I haven't been too observant on that matter, especially during the first several weeks. I was constantly fiddling around with tuning the stock heads para matuto. Ang hirap kasi pakinggan at maintindihan nung una. Lalo na sa 16" floor tom. A lot of moments I didn't like how the kit sounded. Nakaka-frustrate minsan pero di naman nabawasan ang resolve ko na matuto. I did get it to sound decent enough, eventually.

Aside from that, I have no experience with sets that have 2.3mm or die-cast hoops.

Thinking about it now, ok naman, I guess. I recall I didn't always have to tweak any lugs.

The new heads are a different matter.

We'll see. Last Saturday ko lang kasi napalitan yung heads. The following day, may ti-nweak na agad ako na konting lugs bago mag-practice.

My LONG journey to discover and learn continues...

At last na setup na!  :-) Sir how does the kit sound? Ano ang review mo sa silverstar? Sana may sound demo. :)

Paumanhin, delayed response.

Sound... I do not have enough drumming experience yet and haven't had the chance to try other kits/heads/woods. I can't say much now except it sounds like how a typical good set of drums should sound, most especially after I had gained more experience/knowledge on how to tune the heads/shells.

Stock heads were very decent (very open, if I may add, now that I understand how "open" sounds) and I can say that Tama's marketing line that it sounds good right out of the box, has merit.

Despite my limited drumming experience, I can positively say, when I replaced the stock heads, the kit sounded even much better! I heard more tooomm from the toms and the EMAD... oh yeah! May pagka-bass head kasi ako in terms of music listening preference.

After some study/research, I decided I wanted a sound that was just slightly less open than from what I heard with the stock heads (single plys). I don't mind if it sounded too loud in the small room I usually play it in (still learning to improve my dynamics). I also prefer the shells to resonate or ring. I figured from what I read, it will even sound better in more open space.

Review... again, I do not have enough experience with other kits to compare. As far as I am concerned, and so far, I haven't found any fault with regard to craftsmanship, quality, and construction of the shells and hardware. And I can be quite particular on these matters.

There are so many features on each part of the drum set. Just read them from their website. I really appreciate the little things they had incorporated... things on the stands like the nylon washers on the hinge sections (smoother action)... tube locking sleeve mechanism for the height adjustment of the stands (the system will not cause damage to the tubes)... design and construction of the rubber on the legs... quickset tilter... quick release cymbal nuts... simpler tom suspension system (Star-Mount) which is less bulky and lighter... slidable tom holder which really helps with setup adjustments for the location and reach to the toms... memory locks provided where needed (toms, tom holder, hi-hat) for easier teardown and re-setup... lots of adjustments possible for the hi-hat stand: legs (can be rotated), floor board angle, spring tension... Iron Cobra-caliber single bass pedal...

There's really nothing I couldn't like. Not even the 1.6mm triple flanged hoops. I don't have any problems or concerns in using them, so far, although I will be replacing all of them with S-hoops primarily to protect the bearing edges from wayward stick hits and better sounding rim shots on the snare.

Sometimes, I see more expensive or higher end or other brand kits from music stores but there's no second look or any thoughts that wished I had any of those instead.

I am VERY VERY content with my Tama Silverstar. AS IN! Money very well spent!

Sound demo... will try... naghahanap pa ako ng camera with a decent sound recorder (saving for a Zoom Q3HD)... saka na...
