Darn... these aren't "newbie" mistakes... these are "everyone-who's-not-a-professional-or-serious-musician" mistakes...  :-D

Investing in distortion boxes instead of a good amp.

Learning 100 intros and no songs.

Buying too many effects.

Relying too much on printed music and tabs.

Taking guitar lessons from a friend.

Obsessing about playing burning solos, and not caring about rhythm guitar.

Guilty ako sa mga yan. Ha! Ha! Ha! :-D

Playing "Smoke on the Water" on the high-E string.

eto ang nakadali sakin hahahaha... ayos... eto pa, nangyari sakin to kc lasing ako ndi dahil sa newbie ako pero nangyayari din to sa newbie i guess...

pagsaksak ng stompbox naguguluhan sa input and output :)

Hhahaha!! Nangyari sa akin ito. Kaya umabot ako once almost 15 mins sa gig trying to find out which one of my pedals isn't working. Yun pala baliktad lang!!! Anak ng puch...

Which leads me to mistake #15:
Buying too many pedals....

Yung masaklap talaga yung taking guitar lessons from a friend... Panu yan yung friend ko nag influence saken? Chempre basically sa kanya galing first few "lessons" ko. ^_^

heto mga mistakes ko, nung newbie ko at hanggang ngayon

Limiting yourself to one style of music (in my case blues... pero lahat naman ng blues-influenced styles inaaral ko)

Not taking the time to learn music theory.

Not maintaining your gear (tamad ako maglinis!).

Buying too many effects.

Listening to tone snobs.

Not learning how all your gear works.

Not investing in good earplugs for playing loud gigs. (pero meron na ngayon)

Obsessing about playing solos, and not caring about rhythm guitar. (guilty!)

Spending more time on Harmony Central (+ TGP, PhilMusic) than actually practicing.

Forgetting that playing music is meant to be fun.

Top 40 Newbie Mistakes--->learning so much to be arrogant than to be humble

I've seen so many newbies who tends to be so arrogant but they really sucks at strings,... bigtime kasi? could be ....cause they possess great gears but plays damn rotten, parang wala silang karapatan gamitin mga signature gears na yun... then sa labas ng gig...maka yosi at maka asta kala mo sikat na...oi oi oi...ang bolang alam nyo pingpong palang pero maka asta na kayo kala mo basketball na ang hawak nyo!

through the help of this thread, i was finally convinced that it is better to spend more time on practicing and studying music theory with less gear instead of wasting time tweaking a load of effects for days and not being able to learn to complete even a single song.

my next GAS would probably be just several packs of strings,a tremol-no, jazz3 picks and several cans of wd40 and pledge.  :-D

Not taking the time to learn music theory.

Not knowing the difference between tube watts and solid-state watts.

Learning with your eyes, instead of your ears.

Not learning to play in time with good groove and feel.

Not investing in good earplugs for playing loud gigs.

Spending more time on "PHILMUSIC" than actually practicing.

Listening to tone snobs.

Ripped from the October issue of Guitar Player

large 400%

1. Investing in distortion boxes instead of a good amp.

2. Learning 100 intros and no songs.

3. Limiting yourself to one style of music-usually metal.

4. Playing too loud, and with too much distortion.

5. Relying on picks.

6.Not maintaining your gear.

7. Weak vibrato.

8. Buying(Wanting) too many effects.

9. Listening to tone snobs (ano ung tone snobs?).

10. Believing that opening for a national act means you're on your way.

11. Not knowing the difference between tube watts and solid-state watts. (can anybody define these two?)

12.Wearing the guitar way too low.

13. Using too much hand/finger pressure when fretting.

14. Taking guitar lessons from a friend.

15. Bringing full stacks to tiny bar gigs.

16. Not investing in good earplugs for playing loud gigs.

17. Obsessing about playing burning solos, and not caring about rhythm guitar.

18. Thinking that playing fast pentatonic-box patterns makes you a hot guitarist.

19. Not putting casters on viciously heavy amps.

oh my god!!! this makes me realize that i still have much to learn.... huhuhu!!!
